But then, I wanted to use their story as an opportunity to understand the dynamics of being queer in Nigeria more deeply. Their story is warm and also quite bleak. What did you think of it? I thought their story was both warm and bleak too. I felt bad at several points. I was surprised they weren’t eager to jump on the japa train, though. I suspect it has to do with how expensive that can be. I also like how they talked in general about how almost everything in Nigeria is toxic. It made their unique struggles that much more relatable to me. I can relate. I also thought the interview went well.
