Dan Chabanov here, Bicycling's test editor. One of my recent articles covers an interesting product: Chain lube. It’s equally important for racers interested in squeezing every last watt out of their equipment in the hope of going faster as it is to commuters, bike messengers, and any rider who just wants their bike to keep working. When I sat down to write this story, I already knew that a good chain lube can make a bike faster. I also knew that a good chain lube can make a drivetrain last longer and save you money. What I didn’t quite understand was just how big the overlap between these things was. I spent many months talking to Adam Kerin, who runs Friction Facts and is the only person independently testing chain lubes. His data and results were enlightening, to say the least. Perhaps too often, a headline for a story will border on exaggeration, but that is not the case here. So I hope you read my story about how much money you can save by using a good chain lube and let yourself be guided by the data.   [The Right Chain Lube Can Save You Thousands of Dollars]( [The Right Chain Lube Can Save You Thousands of Dollars]( If you run a dirty chain, you are burning cash and other inconvenient truths about chain lube.
