Whether it's your body resetting your hormones, some unexpected stress that's affecting you, or just a change in your routine, plateaus can affect you at different times in your weight loss journey. "I am on the 28 day plan now. I lost 14 lbs the first two weeks then got to week 3 and reached a plateau! I have been the same weight for a week now. Has anyone else dealt with a plateau?" - Susan, a Beyond Diet member Susan, I completely understand. First, let's give you a round of applause for 14 pounds lost in the first 2 weeks. WOW! Nice work. This is very typical for most people who begin the Beyond Diet plan. Their bodies release a lot of water weight, the inflammation in their bodies dramatically decreases, and they see a really significant weight loss in the first few days and weeks. But this is not a healthy weight loss to maintain. Eventually the body transitions into a healthy weight loss rate (1-2 pounds per week). I know you would love to continue to lose 7 pounds each week, but I assure you, that rate is not healthy for your body. Have you ever experienced a plateau? Or are you experiencing a plateau right now? Here are 3 important things to check if you or someone you love is experiencing a weight loss plateau right now. #1 - Is your body hydrated? You know you should be drinking water, but instead of looking at how much water you drank today, take an assessment of how hydrated your body is. Many doctors confirm that once you're thirsty, you are already dehydrated. You also want to pay attention to your urine output when you use the bathroom. Is it dark yellow and strong-smelling? That may be a good indicator of dehydration. If that's the case for you, be sure to decrease the dehydrating drinks like coffee and tea, and increase the hydrating drinks like water and herbal teas. #2 - Are you sleeping enough? I know this one may seem like it doesn't have anything to do with weight loss, but I assure you, it has everything to do with weight loss. An exhausted body just does not lose weight. Some of that has to do with hormone levels in the body that become completely out of balance when your body doesn't get enough sleep. The other part of that is many people (and this may be you) have a really hard time staying away from foods like chocolate, sugar, and caffeine when they are exhausted (I can completely relate to this one). How about you? Are there any small changes in your day you can make to get a little more sleep each night? Seven or more hours would be ideal, but even just adding an extra 15 minutes each night can make all the difference in the world. #3 - Could you benefit from a mental reset? Sometimes to bust through a plateau, you just need a little change in your routine... not so much for the physical part, but for the mental aspect of weight loss. Let's be honest, staying at a plateau for too long can sometimes mess with your brain. You begin to think negative thoughts like "Am I really capable of losing this weight?" or "Will I be at this plateau forever?" The answer is YES, you are completely capable of losing the weight, and NO, the plateau will not NOT last forever. If you or someone you love is standing still at a weight loss plateau, our 7-Day Rescue Plan may be the perfect "plateau buster" for you. "On day 7 of the 7-Day Rescue Plan! This is just what I needed! It's gotten me back into the swing of things on all levels. Stopped my cravings dead in their tracks! Plan was simple, straightforward, and recipes were great. Just what I've come to expect from Beyond Diet. I discovered this morning that I'd lost 7 pounds in 7 days! To me this is a bonus because all I wanted was to get back on track and get rid of those cravings. Both of those goals were accomplished." - Deanne, a happy Beyond Diet member Sounds like all Deanne needed was #3, a mental reset to get her back on track losing weight and feeling good.
