Whenever you WANT one of those salty, or sweet treats, your body is actually telling you that you really NEED something else. Yesterday we talked about what a chocolate craving really means, today I’m going to get into the salty side of cravings… Potato Chips Once people start crunching, they just can’t stop! If your cravings are more on the side of SALTY, you may be deficient in just that...SALT. I’m talking the good salt, which is unrefined Sea Salt. If you’ve ever found yourself at the bottom of the potato chip bag, still craving more, you don’t need more chips, you need more good, healthy unrefined sea salt. But it may not be as simple as just adding in some salt. In some studies, researchers have found that a lack of potassium, calcium, and iron causes test subjects to devour table salt. To increase your potassium levels, reach for some coconut water or bananas. For increased calcium, go for some canned salmon or sardines with bones. And for more iron, reach for the red meat and organic egg yolks. Breads and Pasta Most cravings for foods that are high in carbs are due to blood sugar imbalances. Craving carbs means you need more protein to balance out your blood sugar levels. I know grabbing a chicken drumstick is not exactly what you’re looking for when your tummy is telling you "bagel, bagel, bagel," but you will find yourself much more satisfied and full and NOT craving even more later in the day. The importance of eating enough protein cannot be overstated, and as your nutritionist, it's my job to make sure you get all the nutrients you need to feel your best, and to make it as simple as possible. If you find yourself craving carbs, throughout your day, I highly encourage you to crush those cravings with one of my favorite sources of clean and delicious protein: Spring of Life Plant Protein Not only is it delicious, it is one of the cleanest sources of protein available on the market today…I know because I helped formulate it! This protein powder is pretty special, and was actually created just for you as a Beyond Diet member. After a full year of perfecting this formula, I’m so excited to finally make it available to you!
