Can I be 100% candid with you, {NAME}? Between surgeries and consultations and dinner obligations and social events and the kids’ football practice and ballet lessons… I’ve been feeling burnt out with a capital B lately. You know — that exhaustion you get when things are just go go go… And it’s like you just don’t have a second for yourself? Well, everything really came to a head last weekend… When I made a mistake no parent ever wants to make. I’ll set the scene: It was Violet’s ballet recital this past Friday — she’d been practicing her routine in the mirror for WEEKS! And of course, I wanted to record the entire thing for relatives. (In fact, Violet made me promise to film it so her grandparents could watch.) But I’d had such an insane day — well, actually, WEEK — that when the recital was over I realized something: My mind was SO scattered… I never hit the “record” button on my phone. 🤦 I felt terrible. Of course, Kendhal told me not to worry about it — plenty of other parents would be happy to send us a copy of their video... But I knew I had to hit the breaks (before it got to the point where I was making more serious mistakes!). So I took the entire next day off to recharge… And while a little time for myself is exactly what I needed — I had to acknowledge how I got there in the first place: By not letting myself take a much-needed break. But unfortunately, that’s how a lot of us operate nowadays. Everything is so face-paced and go go go… it makes it almost impossible to make time for your needs. (Not to mention, it’s nearly impossible to go 10 minutes without getting distracted by a notification on your phone.) There’s always somewhere to be or someone to see… And this fast-paced "hustle" culture can really take a toll on you. Personally, I see it in my friends and patients — who always seem to be wearing SO many hats at once… But they always brush it off, because it’s “just the way things are these days!” The problem? It’s not the way it HAS to be. After all, we aren’t meant to operate at 100%, 100% of the time… And I worry a lot of us don’t give ourselves permission to slow down anymore. So {NAME} — I want to know: When you start getting burnt out — what’s your “recipe” for feeling better? Maybe you run a bath, watch your favorite movie, and enjoy a cozy, comforting meal… Or maybe you like to pick up a good book… take a group exercise class… and then clean the house as a “reset.” Or perhaps your “recipe” is simply doing NOTHING — and that’s okay too. I know I could use some pointers myself… And I think any tips you have would also be super helpful for the BHMD community as a whole. So whatever your personal “reset recipe” is… Hit “reply” to this email and tell me all about it. After all, keeping your stress levels down is one of the KEYS to aging gracefully… And I know it can feel selfish to devote time and energy to making yourself feel good. But the truth is — it’s necessary. Because remember: You can’t fill the cups of others, before filling YOURS first. I can’t wait to hear from you! Your Beverly Hills MD, Dr. John Layke P.S. When you do write in — please know there’s a chance your response WILL be shared with the BHMD community. Just a heads up! Because from personal experience, listening to the ways others prioritize self care can inspire you to do the same. So if you’re comfortable sharing with me (and the rest of the newsletter)... hit “reply” and tell me: What’s your self-care “recipe” for when you’re feeling burnt out? And who knows? Maybe, just maybe, your response will help someone else get back to feeling like themselves again. 😄      This email was sent to {EMAIL} by jlayke@beverlyhills-md.com [Edit Profile]( | [Manage Subscriptions]( | [VIP Discounts]( | [Join Text Club]( | [Subscribe](  8391 Beverly Blvd., #471, Los Angeles, CA 90048   [Report Spam](  These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
