Open for New Years inspiration â> {NAME}, weâre nearly 2 weeks into 2024⦠And for many people, that means itâs officially QUITTING SEASON. Seriously! The second Friday of every year is called âQuitterâs Dayâ â because statistically speaking, itâs when many people abandon their well-intentioned New Year's goals. But {NAME} â I'm positive that's NOT going to be us this year. Why? Well, I know how resilient and determined this community is... so it's not a question of whether you CAN do it. I know you can! The RIGHT question is: Can you stay motivated enough to keep on track with your resolutions? That's why today, to help you stay inspired â I want to share a few messages from your fellow BHMD subscribers... Detailing their goals for 2024! After all, hearing other peopleâs aspirations can provide valuable insight and inspiration⦠And help you keep your own resolutions going strong. So with that, letâs jump right in with this gem from Lara â who chose an awesome guide word (a phrase thatâs meant to âguideâ your intentions) for 2024:
Â
âACCEPT! Thatâs my guide word for 2024 (and beyond). Whether I face good health or bad; gain or loss; sorrows or joys; successes or failures, I am going to accept what comes my way, and be content.â
Such a good point, Lara! We canât always control what happens to us, but we CAN control how we react to it⦠Which brings me to Anne â whoâs using 2 guide words to help her face challenges in 2024:
Â
âMy words would be âbalanceâ and âgrace.â I'm a stay at home mom with 3 little boys â one with severe special needs â and I'm always rather overwhelmed. I picked âbalanceâ to try to remember to do something for myself, like practicing the piano. And I picked âgraceâ to give me patience.â
Wow, Anne â 3 boys?! Youâre a saint! Iâm so glad to hear youâre focusing on moments of self-care this year, no matter how small. After all, the only way to show up for others⦠Is to show up for ourselves first. Next up, Robin shares the guide word she selected for the New Year, and itâs one of my favorites:
Â
âMy guide word would be âgratitude'. When you try to concentrate on what you're grateful for, life is much more pleasant. A grateful heart makes for a healthy mind, which your body responds to!â
I couldnât agree more, Robin. No matter how much we accomplish in life, thereâs always going to be that ânext thingâ that we want. But when we stop and realize how much we already have, it really puts things into perspective â and this guide word is the perfect reminder. :) Ok, next up is Ann, who sounds like sheâs heading into the New Year with a FIRE in her belly! ð¥
Â
âMy word (or rather two) would be âpress on.â No matter how I am feeling, I will press on and do or complete what must be done. I refuse to give up, give in, or back off.â
Way to go, Ann! With this powerhouse attitude, I have no doubt youâll accomplish whatever you set your mind to this year⦠And I canât think of a better pep-talk as we move further into 2024. Okay, Iâll wrap up with Judy â who shared her own method for making a New Yearâs resolution⦠And I have to say, I might be stealing this one next year. ð
Â
âI am terrible about making mile-long to-do lists. Last year, my daughter and I decided to do âTa-Daâ lists. You pick your top three things and when you accomplish one, you send a "Ta-Da!" text. It keeps us motivated and we usually can do more than three, but the day is always deemed a success even if you only do one. Ta-Da makes me smile and keeps me from feeling weighed down with the items that didn't get accomplished that day.â Ta-da! How fun. I love how you and your daughter are doing this together. Not only are resolutions WAY MORE successful when you have an accountability partner⦠But it makes sticking to them more enjoyable, too! {NAME}, I hope reading these submissions sends a little motivation your way⦠Because at the end of the day, BHMD is a community⦠And even though weâre miles apart, weâre still in this together! We can learn from one another⦠Draw strength from our shared experiences⦠And make 2024 one of our best years yet. With that, I've got to get going â Kendhal and I are taking the kids out for a hike. Have a great rest of your weekend, and talk soon! Your Beverly Hills MD, Dr. John Layke
