Want maximum results? Apply your skincare in this order: Listen up, {NAME}, because class is in session! Today, we’re talking about something extremely important: The order in which you apply your skincare products. This is on the agenda because: a. The correct order can make a huge improvement to your skincare results b. BHMD has a robust line of skin-loving formulas — and I want to make sure you’re getting the most out of each and every one So buckle up, and let’s dive in with…
 Step 1: Cleanser
(Morning and night)
Cleansing your face removes dirt, oil, and makeup — while preparing your skin to absorb the other products you plan to use. When you select a cleanser, it’s important to remember skin naturally produces less moisture over time… Meaning most of us develop dry or sensitive skin as we mature. So, I recommend using a gentle cleansing formula that won’t strip your skin of all its hydration.
Â
Pro-tip: Use lukewarm water to wash your face. Water that’s too hot can irritate the skin, and water that’s too cold isn’t the best at dissolving excess oil.
 Step 2: Exfoliation
(Night)
Exfoliation is a great way to rid your face of dead skin cells — revealing a brighter, fresher complexion underneath. There are 2 main categories of exfoliants: ♦ Chemical exfoliants — which use chemicals to dissolve dead skin cells... ♦ Mechanical exfoliants — which use brushes, sponges, or scrubs to buff away dead skin. If your skin is dry or sensitive skin, I recommend using chemical exfoliants… And if you’re more prone to oily skin, you can use either chemical or mechanical products. My top recommendations: [Refine + Reveal Multi-Acid Mask]( (Chemical exfoliant) and [Smooth Radiance Exfoliating Scrub]( (Mechanical exfoliant)
Â
Pro-tip: You should only exfoliate twice a week max. Decrease the frequency to once a week if your skin looks red or irritated.
 Step 3: Beauty Essences
(Morning and night)
Once referred to as ‘beauty water' by ancient Japanese geishas, essences have been ingrained in Asian skincare routines for centuries… And for good reason! Essences work to: - SOAK UP moisture into the deep layers of your skin... - SEAL IN that moisture to leave your skin nourished and hydrated… - AND LATCH ON to your favorite beauty products so your skin drinks up every last drop (That’s why you’ll want to use it before all your juicy serums. Essences help the remainder of your routine work even more effectively.) My top recommendation: [Moisture Lock Botanical Essence](
Â
Pro-tip: Since essences have a watery texture, I like to shake a few drops onto my hands, then gently press them into the skin.
 Step 4: Mask
(Morning or night)
Using a face mask a couple times a week is a GREAT way to prioritize a little "you time"... And applying them in the morning to kick start your day — or using one at night to end the day on a relaxing note — is always a great idea. Now, many face masks focus solely on detoxifying the skin... But the best anti-aging masks will also hydrate and plump the skin — to leave behind a soft, supple finish. My Top Recommendation: [Plump + Glow Vitamin C Serum](
Â
Pro-tip: Keep your serums arranged in order (thinnest to thickest) in your medicine cabinet so your routine is a breeze. Use retinol serums at night, because the sun makes it less effective.
 Step 6: Specialty Treatments
(Follow product instructions for frequency)
At this point, you’ve delivered major benefits to your skin… Now it’s time to target specific concerns with any dark spot correctors, overnight wrinkle treatments, or lash/brow serums you may have. My Top Recommendation: [Lash Enhancing Serum](
Â
Pro-tip: Always follow instructions regarding the frequency you apply products. Depending on the ingredients, you may be able to reapply throughout the day to get maximum benefits.
 Step 7: Eye Cream
(Morning and night)
The skin around the eye is thin and sensitive, so it’s important to use products designed specifically for the eye area. Not to mention — the eye areas are also where we see the earliest signs of aging… So be sure to give them a little extra attention if you want to maintain a youthful look. My favorite eye creams are those that deliver intense moisture while plumping the skin. Formulas that contain peptides, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants are typically excellent options. My Top Recommendation: [Total Recovery Night Eye Cream](
Â
Pro-tip: To apply eye products correctly, keep these tips in mind: ♦ Do so with a gentle touch. Use your pinky or ring finger to lightly dab products around the eye area. ♦ Be careful not to rub or pull, as this can contribute to loose looking skin. ♦ A little goes a long way with eye creams. A pea-sized amount will typically do the trick — and it can make your products go a lot further.
 Step 8: Face oil
(Morning and night — but use the right formulas)
Face oils are great for delivering an extra dose of nutrients and locking in hydration, but not all oils are created equal. See, lightweight formulas absorb into the skin super quickly… But heavier, occlusive oils take more time to soak in — often leaving behind a shiny finish. For that reason, lighter oils can be applied day or night, but heavy oils should be reserved for your evening routine. My Top Recommendation: [Brighten + Tighten Restorative Facial Oil](
Â
Pro-tip: If you’re using face oil in the morning, make sure it absorbs fully before moving onto the next step. That way, it won’t prevent your following products from absorbing into the skin.
 Step 9: Moisturizer
(Morning and night)
Not only do moisturizers keep skin soft and hydrated… They help lock in essential moisture all day and all night! For bonus points, apply your moisturizer to slightly damp skin. That way, it can really trap in all that nourishing hydration — along with all the formulas you just applied. My Top Recommendation: [Quench + Hydrate Gel Moisturizer](
Â
Pro tip: Don't forget to moisturize your neck and decolletage, too. Otherwise slack skin, "jowls," and necklace lines could become more noticeable.
 Step 10: Sunscreen
(Morning and throughout day)
Whatever you do… No matter the season… Do NOT skip this step! Not only does the sun impose a serious risk of skin cancer… But a study found UV exposure is also responsible for 80% of visible signs of aging… Meaning your skin will look much older, much faster without proper protection from the sun’s rays. Use a sunscreen that’s 30 SPF or higher, water-resistant, and provides broad spectrum protection. For proper protection, sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours — or immediately after swimming or sweating.
Â
Pro-tip: While makeup products with SPF can certainly help protect against the sun, they should not be used in place of regular sunscreen. That’s because the amount of product used in a normal makeup application isn’t enough to provide an adequate shield from the sun. And there you have it, {NAME}! Follow these steps to build a robust routine that makes you feel fresh, rejuvenated, and pampered… Not just for the health of your skin… But for the confidence you’ll gain from a beautiful looking complexion. That’s something you deserve to feel every day. :) Your Beverly Hills MD, Dr. John Layke  ‚  Â
