Every dollar donated is important to helping us take back the House in 2024, so thank you! Ami has been hard at work for Sacramento County in Congress. Because so much has been happening, we’re sharing a newsletter so you have all the info you need. In the last session, Ami helped pass critical landmark legislation to fight climate change, lower health care and prescription drug costs, as well as improve infrastructure, strengthen supply chains, codify marriage equality, and more. As the new Congress picks up, Ami is dedicated to getting things done. Check out what he’s been working on below! [Updates from Team Bera]( → Ami was appointed to some very crucial House committees. Once again, he’s serving on the Foreign Affairs Committee—where he is now the ranking member of the subcommittee on the Indo-Pacific. The subcommittee is crucial to our national security, values, and economy as we compete with China on the world stage. He will serve for the first time on the House Intelligence Committee, which is charged with providing oversight to our nation’s intelligence activities and agencies. Lastly, he was chosen to sit on the new House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, which examines the effectiveness of policies created and funds used to address COVID-19. → Early in the year, Ami—who is the longest serving Indian American in Congressional history—celebrated the most Indian American members of Congress in U.S. history. This has helped to make the 118th Congress the most diverse Congress ever. → For his State of the Union guest, [Ami invited a local community leader](. His guest was the founder of Brother 2 Brother Mentoring, Mervin Brookins. Brookins’ organization empowers local at-risk youth and provides gang prevention as well as intervention. Having served 21 years in prison, his story is one of redemption and perseverance. → In February, Ami introduced a bill to simplify health care enrollment. As the former Chief Medical Officer for Sacramento County, Ami is committed to removing barriers to health care access. This bill will allow Americans to enroll in coverage as they file their tax returns. Millions of Americans are still uninsured, despite the Affordable Care Act making health insurance cheaper, because of the barriers of enrollment. → [Ami introduced a bipartisan bill]( to give the president new tools to support allies facing economic coercion from the People’s Republic of China, to help protect our partners’ sovereignty. He also introduced a bill to strengthen our expertise in Chinese languages, culture, and more to compete with the People’s Republic and support our allies. → On World Tuberculosis Day, which was on March 24th, Ami reintroduced a bill to strengthen our efforts to eliminate Tuberculosis (TB) around the world. TB has devastated families around the world, killing nearly 2 million people in 2021—more than HIV and malaria combined. Ami has done all that and more so far in this session… and there’s still a lot more coming up!
