Here’s one of my favorite marketing stories for the "I want NEW!" crowd: Many years ago in my MLM days, I was in a company in Kevin Trudeau's downline. He used his infomercials to generate his own leads which was quite brilliant, the more I think about it. And it was also quite the direct marketing lesson in and of itself to learn on literally my last day of college when I saw his "Financial Freedom" informercial, which he was using to generate those MLM leads. Anyway, he did a lot of training for that company. And in one talk he gave, he told the story about when he was 14 or 15 and he wanted to learn martial arts from a fellow named Master Tsai. So he goes into Master Tsai's fighting school. And he walks up to him and says: "I want to learn advanced fighting!" And Master Tsai says, "Advanced?" And Kevin says, "Yeah! Advanced!" So Master Tsai shows Kevin a lit candle and then throws a punch right next to the flame so fast… that the wind from the movement of his fist put the candle out! "That kind of advanced? "Yeah!" "First you must learn how to punch" I first heard that back in 1998. But I still think about it all the time… not only when I am trying to teach something in one of my books or emails, but just when I want to learn something and am tempted not to revisit the basics or fundamentals thinking I need "NEW!" all the time. A very useful story in many ways. For all Kevin Trudeau's faults, I still think he's one of the best speakers and trainers I ever heard. Especially when it came to combining promotion and content (i.e., infotainment). His original infomercials for Mega Memory (helped me get all A's my senior year of college during the 400-level classes, where was this when I was in high school?), Mega Math, Dalton McCrary's Straight Shootin' Golf, and Financial Freedom are still well worthy of studying today if you can find them. Immoral of the story: Don’t try to skip the fundamentals. The fundamentals are everything. And, in fact, my biz partner in all-things SaaS and former Navy nuke engineer-turned-software investor Troy Broussard & I took that exact approach — appealing to the fundamentals of email — when designing BerserkerMail a few years ago. That’s what makes it suitable for both businesses new to email and email pros alike. The near frictionless interface, high deliverability, and robust features while still keeping everything simple for the lay person is all baked in along with many best practices. Not to mention our world-class support. Our support is headed by two Email Players subscribers who use email in their own businesses. i.e., they don't just copy, paste, & stack support tickets. They "get" email and use the platform themselves. But no need to take my word for any of this. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
