According to an article I once saw it could very well be the latter: === About 130 million adults in the U.S. have low literacy skills according to a Gallup Analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education. This means more than half of Americans between the ages of 16 and 74 (54%) read below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level. Literacy is broadly defined as the ability to read and write, but it more accurately encompasses the comprehension, evaluation and utilization of information, which is why people describe many different types of literacy â such as health, financial, legal, etc. Low literacy skills can profoundly affect the day-to-day success of adults in the real world, and these impacts extend to their families, too. (Source Emily Schmidt, Amp Research Lab) === I have long noticed my trolls warp and twist things I write out of context. For example: A blue-flame special who no-doubt in his mind thought he was scoring some kind of brilliantly rhetorical âgotchya!â a couple weeks ago. He reply guy'd a story I told about a charity that made it very easy for me to choose to give them money over the other charities I support one month by the mere act of them (1) being in my inbox when I was looking to spend (2) with a convenient way to donate. The blue flamer trollâs response? âBtw, all non profits even those that don't do email marketing have an email list of donors or potential donors from events. Your lies are obvious for people that are either in the space or have worked with non profits like I have. Just like your other lies like the vsl one. It takes people that are in the game to see the games you're playing.â Translation: I am not really sure. I donât speak dumb ass-ese. The whole point of the email was be there every day in the inbox so would-be buyers see you and not the other guys youâre competing against who are not there every day. The troll clearly had nothing but a fantasy in his mind of doing his silly gotchya â far too focused on trolling and less on reading. Truly a shining example of the study if ever there was one. But like all trolls he was useful, too. Because it got me to thinking about something else with this: I used to assume people only trolled solely because they are emotionally damaged, projecting, and self-loathing/hating wretches downloading their insecurities & seething jealousy about whatever it is troubling them onto me for whatever reason. And that is certainly a big part of it for a lot of them. But now I wonder if maybe itâs more than that? Maybe, just maybe⦠theyâre also just functionally illiterate? Will examine it more closely next time one of these mopes trolls one of my businesses. In the meantime, Iâll just say this: The upcoming March Email Players issue is all about the pathology of trolls so that you, as a business owner, can better monetize them should they choose to download their insecurities and stupidity onto you. Which, if you have anything worthy of hearing, in a niche that has any kind of presence, you can be assured will happen if it hasnât already. People think that just by doing the right thing they wonât get trolled. And then, when it happens, it catches them with their pants down. Some of the the business owners who have been trolled out of the blue for no reason that Iâve talked to legitimately cannot fathom why some stranger would hate them when all they are doing is trying to sell qualities offers to their lists. And itâs like I have to tell them: Someone doing angry pushups over something you said is incapable of âlikingâ you. After all, they donât even like themselves. Totally run through in that sense. So the way I see it, you might as well monetize them. And you can do that by understanding at a deep level their pathology. The March issue is low on âtacticsâ and how-to. Although there is still a little on the tactics-side. Including a real life case study of how I have been exploiting a recurring troll for almost three years straight to the tune of, by my guess, nearly six figures in combined new business, ongoing business, and ancillary business. But mostly the issue is psychological. Lots of peering into the mind of trolls â which are men with female thought patterns. It is good for women to have female thought patterns. But itâs just creepy when men adopt them â just like when they adopt female pronouns. And thatâs why they troll, in many cases. Anyway, all is revealed in the March issue.
