During my latchkey days when I was 9 I saw a movie that has stuck in my head ever since. The movie was called: "Night of the Comet" A cult horror film that has long been one of my many fiction-writing inspirations, along with certain other 80's action & horror movies. Stefania has edited all my novels. And she often says they are more "Midwest 1980's" than Stranger Things â even though my novels don't take place in the 80âs. Back to Night of the Comet: Almost 40 years after watching Night of the Comet I just hired one of the stars of the movie (Kelli Maroni, she played the cheerleader character, and is married to Email Players subscriber Dan Ulin) to read my screenplay based on my first novel Zombie Cop. And she's going to give me her feedback, thoughts, advice based on her many years of experience and accumulated knowledge of the genre and the Hollywood machine â as she still does the horror movie conventions and is still connected to it all in the business. Child elBenbo is quite excited, let me tell ya. Night of the Comet and A Nightmare on Elm Street were formative movies for me that year. Fun times.. Some more fun: After letting some friends and family read the Zombie Cop screenplay (some of whoâd also read and enjoyed the novel) and getting their feedback⦠I realized I had a problem. A problem I did not anticipate but is, ultimately, a good problem. The problem? The screenplay is far and away better than the novel. So I spent the last month rewriting and re-editing, word-by-word, Zombie Cop (the novel) based on that screenplay. This also meantâmuch to my own horrorâdoing even more work in the form of writing brand-new Chapters 7 and 14 for Book Seven (Luciferâs Favorite) and a small edit to the ending of Book Six (Hellâs Frankenstein). Not to mention having to pay to have those changes (including all of Zombie Cop) re-recorded in the audio books and figuring out some logistics for Amazon I wonât bore you with here. Itâs actually quite the pain in in the azz in a lot of ways. But Iâd do it again in a zombie victim-panicked heartbeat. Because it was not only a labor of love⦠but this new version of my Zombie Cop novel (weâll call it Zombie Cop 2.0) that will be out in the next few months is not only much shorter (nearly half the length), but a faster, cleaner, and hopefully more entertaining experience for the readers to enjoy. Itâs also something Iâd let my mom read, too. Itâs no joke or exaggeration that, over all these years, I forbade her from reading the original. I just didnât want her wondering how sheâd failed her boy⦠If you read the current version on Amazon, the new one that I will release when ready will have the same story, but it might feel like an almost totally different book in some ways. Personally, I like to think of it as: âReverse Osmosis Fictionâ i.e., a novel, adapted from the screenplay, which was adapted from the original novel. All right, enough of this yapping. I do not know when the new version will be for sale. But when it is, I will probably just put it free in the Enoch Wars app. That way, those who read it originally donât have to re-buy it, and new readers can get a taste of what to expect in the rest of the 8 books that come afterwards and be more likely to check them out. In the meantime? On a totally different note: Tomorrow I am running the four classified ads I sold a couple weeks ago. And I will just say this: I am legitimately surprised by the sheer amount of value (the kind people would lay down a lot of money for) these four people who bought classifieds from me are offering you tomorrow. I think in some cases a couple of them are trying to one-up each other I think⦠and all just to lure you onto their email lists. There are deadlines attached to them, too. So I suggest keeping an eye out for my email tomorrow morning if you want to get in some ridiculously valuable action that will cost you nothing to partake of.
