Below is the final part of the training we’ve been doing all week on how to sell with cold emails. No time for small talk or natter. Here we go: elBENBO: If you were going to cold email a super skeptical person of power and influence, what would you say in it? Let’s say they see a cold email and just assume whoever sent it is a fraud. What would your strategy be? JON BUCHAN: I would treat them no differently to anyone else. Anyone can be disarmed with humour. State your intentions immediately but with levity. You can be direct but meek, and I’ve found such a combination to be reliably efficacious. If this person is of enormous stature and you suspect they don’t check their own inbox, I have two recommendations. Reference the fact that you believe an assistant is likely checking and moderating their inbox. I once included the line “Thank you (or your wonderful, erudite and hard-working assistant) for not deleting this email.”). This resulted in my email still getting to my target, despite the fact he had moved to a new role in an entirely new company. He emailed me to say “Congratulations on your approach. My wonderful, erudite and hard working-assistant at my old job forwarded it to me at my new role. ” If you’re contacting someone of incredible influence or fame (or infamy), it is likely near impossible to get their email address. Instead, figure out who’s in the office with them every day. Find 4 or 5 people who are in close contact with your target. What can you send to them that will cause them to have a conversation about you? You can’t guarantee a response, but you can almost guarantee that someone will talk about you. With enough daring, you can get the response you need, no matter the stature of your target. All right, that wraps the training up. If you didn’t get at least an email idea or two from these emails this week, you probably won’t have any interest in getting Jon’s cold email templates at half off what everyone else pays from my affiliate link below. If you are interested, however, here are the details: 1. The deadline is tonight (11/10) at midnight EST 2. If you use my affiliate link by the deadline, you can have them for 50% off what everyone else pays 3. You also will get (if you order by the deadline) this bonus video: "A Crafty LinkedIn List Building Hack" According to Jon: "It's a tactic that is repeatable and reliable. You can do it several times per month (or more, depending on how hard you want to push it), allowing you to add countless new, relevant, interested subscribers to your email list without having to spend money on Facebook ads. And because of how LinkedIn works, it is highly unlikely that this tactic will cease to work." Plus, in addition to the Linkedin Bonus, you also get these bonuses too: * Charming DMs — for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and anywhere else you can send direct messages to help you get sales calls booked… show free samples of work (e.g. If you’re a copywriter)… Get the attention from highly influential people you admire… Nab response from “dream clients” with the aim of working with them… Invite yourself onto relevant podcasts… Grab the attention of journalists to write a story about you or publish your content… Follow up messages to send if you don’t get a reply from your initial message, and more. * Magic Cold Email Training — which runs through one of Jon’s most successful cold email templates line by line. * Jon’s personal swipe file of website copy, emails, guerrilla marketing, direct mail campaigns, pr campaigns and content marketing * Content Marketing Strategy Guide — about creating content that thinks and plays big to get featured by huge publications such as Entrepreneur.com, Inc.com, Yahoo Business, Time Magazine, The Independent and many more. * How To Be Somewhat Funny — 51-page guide shows you how to write more entertaining copy, providing you with joke formulas, rhetorical devices, and writing exercises. * Promote Yourself Playbook mini training session — video that runs through 10 quick and easy tactics to generate leads immediately. * Jon’s new "Agency Sales" eBook and Cheat Sheet — where he provides prescriptive recommendations on exactly what activity you should be pursuing every day to generate leads.
