No time for the unusual pleasantries today. Following is part 2 of the selling with cold emails training with Jon Buchan. I found this first part about LinkedIn especially clever. Anyway, here goes: elBENBO: Can you give us an example of how cold email can be used to get new business on LinkedIN JON BUCHAN: I have templates for cold pitching on LinkedIn. These come in two parts. The first is the invite copy. Usually, you can just keep this blank and most people will accept. However, I change these to something a little witty. It uses curiosity. And it'll include their name. When the person accepts, I send a follow up message that follows on from the invitation message. Invitation copy: Hey hey {firstname}, Nice to âmeetâ you. I have a weird skill that means I can book meetings with just about anybody. If youâre at all curious, click âacceptâ. :) If not, send me your most cutting insult. :( Fingers crossed, Jon Follow up message copy: Hello there {firstname}, Thanks for not sending me a cutting insult! If youâre at all curious about the ideas I mentioned, let me know and Iâll spill the beans. I say âideasâ⦠It is of course, a thinly veiled sales pitch. However, I often get too enthusiastic and give away great ideas. You should take advantage of this! Have an absolutely wonderful day, Jon elBENBO: I like how this is based on 100% up-front about your intentions and not only gives them permission to say No, but even tries to get them to say âNo.â Tell us a quick story about how you or someone youâve taught has used cold emails to make sales for products. JON BUCHAN: Iâve done this myself a few times with success when selling a cold email training / template bundle pack of mine. The email copy mentioned the fact that it was ironic I was selling a cold email template pack using the medium of email. While I do include a clickable link to the product in the email, the approach still focuses heavily on getting responses too. Not many people will immediately buy a product being sold on cold email, which is fair enough considering there are many scammers around. To combat this, aim for responses. You can build rapport, and then convince them your product is right for them. Obviously, this makes more sense with higher priced products as such interactions are labour intensive. The alternative is to hire and train a VA to manage these conversations, providing them with templates to use to deal with the most common objections and questions. To increase conversions, be sure to add your full contact details in your email signature. Your website, phone number, office address, etc. You need to show you're not some fly by night spammer. elBENBO: Have you used cold email to put profitable JVâs together? How did you approach that? JON BUCHAN: Not a JV in the 'information product' sense but I have a template for emailing complimentary businesses. For example, if you are a web design company, you can reach out to marketing agencies and come to an agreement where you provide leads to each other. This is a strategy I recommend to people, in addition to emailing potential prospects directly. These types of 'partnership' cold emails often get higher response rates because the prospect stands to gain from the relationship. The offer of potential leads will get their attention.
