Behold the (extremely long) book Iâve been reading: âThe Path To Powerâ Itâs by Robert A. Caro and is a very detailed biography about Lyndon B. Johnson. Iâm no fan of LBJ. And I personally have no problem entertaining the theory Oliver Stone implied about him in his movie JFK⦠But seeing how a man who was so distrusted and well-known for being a liar (they used to call him âbullâ in college because he was such a bull shitter) somehow make it to President, was too tempting to pass up. And despite my contempt for the man, thereâs much to learn from him. How he âpuppet-masteredâ his enemies was legitimately quite astounding. He was just a naturally brilliant strategist in every way. He also had another âsuper powerâ of sorts that took him to the top: Obsession. Even with his repulsive personality, the fact nobody trusted a single word that came out of his lying lips, and that you could pretty much just assume everything the guy said was only a half truth at best, he still drew people to him like the Joker drew crazies and schizo in The Dark Knight. Obsession can move mountains. Doesnât matter how talented you are. How connected you are. How poor or disadvantaged you are. Show me a man whoâs obsessed with something, and Iâll show you a man who has a horde of people ready and willing to follow him, buy from him, and, yes, in some cases even die for him. Many top businessmen have tapped into this. Like Walt Disney and Steve Jobs, for example. No matter how bleak things looked (and it was, often) their relentless obsession carried things through, got them funding, commanded obedience, and all but bent the rules of space and time to get things done that no ordinary mortals ever would or could otherwise. Something else: I donât talk about Obsession in the November Email Players issue. But, Obsession is one of many, many ways to harness the mysterious âforceâ of influence & persuasion I write extensively about inside for potentially getting out-of-this-world engagement, sales, prestige, recognition, opportunities handed to you that otherwise wouldnât be, and a kind of influence most mere âmarketersâ never achieve with their plain vanilla sound-bite-inspired approach to the craft. I call it a âforceâ of influence as thatâs the best way I can describe it. Itâs not something Iâve heard anyone teach in my 21+ years in the game. I didnât even think of teaching it until a year ago. Yes, even though Iâve been âdoingâ it for a long time. Maybe Iâm just a slow teacher⦠Whatever the case: What I teach inside is the business & marketing equivalent of the difference between a local band that just sings cover songs and a bonafide rockstar who has an impact in much the same way as described by â Lemmy Kilmister (lead singer of Motörhead) when he said: âPeople donât want to see the guy next door on stage; they want to see a being from another planet.â All right so thatâs that for now. If you want in in time for this special issue, hereâs what to do: 1. Go to the URL 2. Read the page carefully (if you ainât qualified save your money until you are) 3. Then carefully read the obnoxious yellow page youâll see when you try to order, which is there to further curate out the riff-raff who have no place amongst my righteous Email Players of the Horde If you still want in after that, subscribe. Wait for the November issue to arrive. And then plow through it not once, but several times. Absorb it, think about it, and yes, obsess over it a bit. Then apply, watch what happens, let me know.
