Once upon a time I read this beauty on social media about email frequency: “No more than 2 (maybe 3) a week or I’ll unsubscribe fast. It comes across as desperate and too in-your-face in my opinion. #EmailChat” So says the hashtag brigade. Now let’s hear what one of the greatest ad men who ever lived — Mr. Bruce Barton (author of the book “The Man Nobody Knows” — about Jesus as "the Founder of Modern Business” and who was the second “B” in the BBDO ad agency John Caples worked at) — said about this topic, even though he never sent a single email in his entire life. Back in the dark ages when he was doing radio addresses, he told the story about the Biblical patriarch Joseph, and when he was second in command (only to Pharaoh himself) in Egypt. What happened was this: Joseph was “it.” The head guy in charge. Only the Pharaoh himself — considered to be a god — was above him. And, everyone knew who Joseph was, submitted to him, and basically treated him like royalty — known about far and wide. A true celebrity through and through. Nobody dared cross him. Every single citizen knew who he was and loved him. And, there was peace… Then, Joseph croaked and joined the choir invisible. And, according to the great book of Exodus: “And Joseph died, and there arose a new King in Egypt, which knew not Joseph.” Then, just like that: All that prestige, respect, and world class branding vanished like a fart in the wind. PFFT! And, not long after that, Joseph’s entire family was enslaved! That’s how fleeting a brand or business can be eliminated. Which was Barton’s point: “Now that sentence is one of the most staggering lines which has ever been written in a business biography. Here was a man so famous that everybody knew him and presto, a few people die, a few new ones are born, and nobody knows him. The tide of human life has moved on…for every day and every hour the king — which is the public — dies; and there arises a new king which knows not Joseph.” And I will add: It’s even worse now. With the constant moving social media parade, etc. Not every day, but every minute, in the marketplace (in your market) new kings are arising, and unless you let them know how you are there, day in and day out, it won’t be long before they know not you, either. So there you go. Don’t let the new kings forget you. Email every day. Send them something they want to read and buy from. And then, like during Joseph’s reign… there will be peace in your kingdom. And lest you forget about why I am here: This is one of many benefits of using our BerserkerMail platform for email broadcasting and autoresponders, automation, etc. It’s not only “caveman” simple for guys like me, but also advanced enough for the tech heads like my business partner in software Troy Broussard — former Navy Nuclear Engineer-turned-world’s-#1-email automation specialist.
