Below is an email my business partner in BerserkerMail Troy Broussard sent to a would-be client who sells in the male self improvement niche, but got kicked off his ESP, and came to us to see if we could help. But alas we could not help him. Neither probably can any other reputable ESP unless he makes a big change. Not because there’s anything inherently wrong with him or his company. But for reasons I shall let Troy explain: === ...about the vulgarity you use in your emails. It's pretty over the top man and it doesn't surprise me you guys were booted off. Clearly you're going for shock and awe and such and that's fine... that's your choice... but no we wouldn't be able to approve an account with this level of vulgarity in it. Our upstream enterprise provider would certainly shut it down but more importantly we just wouldn't want it on BerserkerMail. I'm a Navy sailor and I'm not exactly "delicate" myself, but there are ways to write your copy that don't have to deteriorate to this level. Hell in my email today it's full of references to cursing without actually cursing... but I know how to dance that line and you guys are just flat out crossing it... big time. Not trying to tell you what to do or preach at you, but I cannot think of any major platform that would allow this to go out. I'm afraid with this style of writing we would not be able to approve you for an account. IF you want to try and salvage the relationship with us and do business together... on top of the standard billing, we would require a one-time $1000 monitoring fee for 30 days and all emails would have to be pre-approved by us during that 30 days to build trust that you had revised your copyrighting ways. We would dedicate someone to reviewing your email copy for a 30 day period and you would not be allowed to send "live" without us preapproving the content. Failure to do so would immediately shutdown your account. After that 30 day period, you would be able to continue on with us provided that there were no infractions. But I warn you now that we will be quick to pull the plug if we get excessive spam complaints or user feedback and that we would still do internal monitoring of your content to ensure that it was compliant. I really don't think you have much choice but to learn to write in a style that is both candid and not vulgar if you want to do business online today or you'll have to become your own ESP (email service provider). But with this style of content, even if you do, you'll likely be blacklisted pretty quickly in today's world. We don't set society's rules, we just choose to live within them… === Can already hear some reply guy shouting from his basement: “You guys have the strictest rules of all the ESPs!” If asking clients to be professional in intent and, if needed, creative in approach is strict, then okay, so be it. It's also one of the best ways to protect the BerserkerMail platform and keep inbox delivery & engagement up for all of us (to protect us from our clients, protect our clients from each other, and, yes, protect our clients from us… as Troy & I follow the same rules with our own businesses). Personally I don’t see it as strict. Just ahead of the curve. Something that’ll become obvious in the coming months and years. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
