Following is a cautionary tale that may not have any relevance to your life whatsoever. On the other

Following is a cautionary tale that may not have any relevance to your life whatsoever. On the other hand, it could very well save your life. Whatever the case, here is the story: Back in 1998 I heard an audio cassette training program (yes, audio cassette…) created by an extremely successful guy in MLM named Chris McGarahan. And in these cassettes he talked about being stressed out in his sales manager job to the point of almost dying. In his case, what happened was one night he wasn’t feeling well after a particularly grueling & stressful day. And he was pacing around, knowing something was “off” in his body, and told his wife to call someone, because something was obviously wrong. Soon afterwards the paramedics came. And sure enough, something was askew. In fact, they told him his heart was (literally) trying to beat itself out of his chest! At least, that's the way I remember him telling it. After which the paramedics told him: “This is so common, we see this almost every day.” Understandably, he walked into his job the next day and quit. Anyway, the story was about how he got into the MLM industry. But even after I liberated myself from that industry, and got into copywriting and direct response marketing, it helped guide me on how to build my own business. The last thing I wanted was to have a super successful business…. but that was also so stressful my heart would try to burst out of my chest like a Xenomorph from the “Alien” movies some day. All of which is somewhat ironic. Because I work more hours than I ever have in my life now. Six (sometimes seven) days per week, I am up and at ‘em by as early as 1:30 am. And depending on the day, I have a whole docket of things to do, that I want to do, and that needs being done. But I don’t have any heart-beating-out-of-my-chest moments. And, in fact, almost every time I have my blood pressure checked it’s near perfect. The secret to grinding without groaning? Loving what you do, of course. I don’t see my long days as grueling work. It’s all an exciting adventure. As I write this email, I am having a blast. Much of the time I have (according to those who have observed me do my thing) a big sappy smile on my face, and often amusing myself while writing. This applies to writing emails or sales copy. Or long 400+ page content-heavy books. Or turning my novels into comic scripts. Or working on my next novel (currently). It’s all fun for the most part. Yes, sometimes there is some ticky-tack nonsense I don’t want to deal with — like prepping my books for the bookkeeper, or having to be on the phone (I loathe the phone, I strive to have a “phone-less” existence), or some other task I dislike but have to do as a grownup who votes and pays taxes. But as far as my work, I can’t get enough of it. I want to do it, and if anything get stressed when I can’t do it. Which brings me to the point of all this: There’s something to be said about making sure you are (1) in a niche you’re passionate about, (2) selling products you can’t wait to get into peoples’ hands, and (3) dealing with customers and a market you want to help and like dealing with. Those 3 things may sound laughably simple. But most people would be shocked by how few businesses have all three in place. Far too many just get into a niche because “that’s where the money is.” Sell products because “that’s what I heard people are buying.” And deal with customers they despise because “I have a mortgage and have no choice right now, but some day…” Bah! Horse sheeyaaaat. You only get one life, Lash LaRue. Do you want to spend your days selling products that bore you, in a niche that does not excite you, to customers that irritate and/or annoy you? All right, enough cautionary tales for the soul. I may work a nearly 10 hour workday sometimes a lot by choice. But the foundation of what I do, and how I built it, is embedded in my 10-Minute Workday program AWAI sells. I did the short workday thing for about 6 years until I got bored with it and my ambitions grew way beyond what the program could do for me. But the foundation of what I did and grew my current business on is inside that program. No, it does NOT happen overnight. Prepare to spend weeks and probably many months growing your business correctly, and having the patience to endure some hair-raising learning curves if you aren't already a proficient marketer and/or copywriter. There is nothing “push button” or “copy & paste” about it. This is business, not Candyland. And yes, it’s very expensive. This ain't a cheap $17 eBook on Clickbank. Plus, there are no guarantees it’ll work for you or what you want. Gee, it’s almost like real life has risks and consequences? But I can say this: If you use the program… and if you are successful with getting a pleasantly short workday set up, you may see farther like I ultimately did, and grow it higher and further from there, and spend lots more time on it. Or not. But at the very least, your heart hopefully won't beat out of your chest.
