Hereâs an interesting tale for the business books of lore: I once did an intense study about the late Gary Gygax â inventor of Dungeons & Dragons â and was astounded by how dedicated he was to his Mission. A Mission, I will add, that has resulted in collectively billions of dollars worth of revenue in RPGs (role playing games), computer games, and even TV shows over the last 40 or so years. The word âobsessedâ gets thrown around a lot. But in Garyâs case it was no exaggeration. Frankly, he was was so obsessed with his Mission, and spent so much time, energy, money, and emotion on it â his wife burst into his friend's basement while they were building war games thinking he was cheating on her. It also got him fired from his job of 8 years as an insurance underwriter. And, it even got him investigated by the Feds! Hereâs what happened: Gary started a local war gaming group in his town (Lake Geneva, Wisconsin). And, it grew so big⦠so fast⦠and had such a quickly-growing passionate crowd of people associated with it following him & his Mission⦠the Federal government (this was during the Cold War) sent a man and a woman, posing as a married couple, to infiltrate the group, to make sure they werenât planning to blow anything up, etc. It takes a strong Mission to get that kind of attention! But his Mission was everything to him. And when I mentioned he got fired from his job, he wasnât exactly innocent. As it turned out he would arrive early and leave late from work so he could write a bunch of his gaming manuals on the company typewriter. Anyway, such is the power of having a Mission. Nobody can tell you what your Mission is. There is no 10-point checklist that will solve it for you, either. But, when you find it, youâll know it. You wonât have to ask anyone about it, you wonât have to be artificially motivated to work on it, need a Facebook accountability group to keep you on track with it (you keep others accountable to you, total reversal), and you wonât have to wonder if itâs what you should be doing or not. More: I certainly did not invent this concept. Itâs been the secret of world historyâs most successful people. But, I have created a âbeaconâ to guide people with. And you can read about it in the first chapter of my first Villains book (âPersuasion Secrets Of The Worldâs Most Charismatic & Influential Villainsâ) at this creepy link here: [httpsâ¶//www.EmailPlayers.com/villains]( Ben Settle P.S.Lest you think I'm just throwing puffery at you with these Villains books... Speaker, Author, Executive Coach & âEmail Playersâ subscriber John Brubaker says: === I ordered copies for a couple clients and in an attempt to turn them into villains in training I currently have my kids reading the first two. As a retired college lacrosse coach of 12 years turned entrepreneur I can tell you that for me the beauty of all three of these books is the fact that they "speak my language". In other words, they perfectly fit my coaching philosophy which has also been my business philosophy... Always be on offense, never on defense. Even when you're technically "on defense". What I mean by that is always be proactive not reactive, attacking never retreating, all gas no brakes. Every single example in your book perfectly illustrates this to a tee. So thank you (and Rood) for these books which I have put in my Google calendar to re-read at the start of each new year. This email was sent by Ben Settle as owner of Settle, LLC.
