Many years ago (around 2007 or 2008), I had a long telephone conversation with a hardcore, “fire breathing” atheist. This guy had quite a lot of hate for God. To the point I remember half wondering if a priest abused him or something. Who knows? What I do know is his hatred of God wasn’t at-all rational. And he basically said you aren’t a critical thinker if you believe in God. Which is, of course, absurd. Unless one really believes Newton, Tolkien, CS Lewis, not to mention the hordes of other Christians of great intellect and scientific achievement and/or who were founders & builders of nations and industry throughout the centuries were not “critical thinkers.” Anyway, I don’t know if this adds to anyone’s life. But for whatever reason I got to thinking about all this after reading a Dan Kennedy newsletter recently. Specifically, when he said an old timey day veteran in the speaking industry once told him outright that most people resent being made to think. It’s astounding how many avoid having to do it. But, at the time time there are also people who not only don’t resent it but enjoy it. And seek it out. And even can’t get enough of it. Probably a very small minority in most niches. But there’s a lot of power in focusing on 4 quarters vs 100 pennies. Do with that info what you will. In the meantime: The May Email Players issue is getting close to going to the printer. After that it’ll be too late to subscribe in time to get it. The entire issue is one, big, gigantic analysis of my latest sales letter selling my upcoming book about creating a horde of eager-to-buy customers by using the visual & design-side of marketing, and it is very bullet-heavy. So if you like how I write bullets, and, even more importantly… if you have found yourself buying one of my offers due to a bullet (or several bullets) then you will be able to see exactly how I think, strategize, and formulate my own bullets, for my own ads. Very intense issue. And, I believe, very valuable. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
