A few weeks ago, I was asked the timeliest question of them all: âWhen is the best time of the day to send emails?â My answer? Well, letâs put it this way: Many moons ago â around 2004, I believe â it was declared 2:00 PM EDT was best. If memory serves, I believe even Gary Halbert declared it so. So what happened? A bunch of goo-roo fanboys blindly started sending their emails at that time. And, what happened then was, everyoneâs inboxes were getting an email from the same vulture-like cadre of marketers who canât think past âcopy & steal!â and âwhatâs working now!â at that exact same time, ruining it as being the supposedly âbestâ time, assuming it even had been. The amusing thing is, it wasnât really the best time anyway. It only was best for the marketer who supposedly tested it. More: Up until a couple years ago I sent my daily emails at precisely 6:30 am PDT. I did this for multiple reasons I wonât go into here. And I did it with such ruthless precision you could literally set your watch to it. But then after discovering there were dozens, if not more, of marketers in a niche similar to mine â i.e., we had some of the same people on our lists â blindly copying the time I sent emails, I decided to make it completely random. No rhyme or reason. No strategy or master plan. Not the way I usually operate at all. And no, I didnât notice any less response. And the reason why is because itâs not really the time of the day doing the selling anyway. The best time for me is whenever I feel like sending it. Yes, ideally, I would email at the same time each day. If for no other reason than thatâs the kind of ordered way I like to live my life. But, the copycats have ruined that. However, instead of rueing the fact: I simply go with it and use it to my advantage best I can. All of which brings me to another important & related point: The reason I made the above changes was no mere âtactic.â It was a rule I live life and do business by. A rule I follow up in this business â and in my personal life â for helping ensure the maximum chances of success, peace of mind, and goal-achievement possible. Rules are important. I have noticed all the greatest business & marketing minds have always had rules. And the more proven rules I implement in my business, the more successful I am. Just as the more proven rules I implement in my day-to-day life, the more successful I am. All of which brings me to the rub finally: Way back in 2014 (on my first podcast) I started a series of episodes I called âEmail Players Rules.â I got the idea from the Beige Phillip Show podcast hosted by comedian Dante Nero, who was the late Patrice OâNealâs straight man on the Black Phillip Show. And Dante did some episodes he called: âThe Beige Phillip Rulesâ â which were principles & maxims for men needing to get their balls back when it comes to dealing with women. And I decided to adapt the concept for my podcast waxing philosophical about maxims & rules I live by not only in business, but in life in general. Especially those that have made my business the most success and given me the most peace of mind in life. They were by far the most popular episodes I did. So much so, that after I killed off that first podcast and started a new one the next year, I continued on with them all the way up until I killed that podcast off, too. And in the 3 years since, Iâve kept writing more down intending to some day record them. Probably in my mobile app as its own channel. But I have never quite gotten around to it. And, I doubt I ever will, as I am more random about what I put in the app. Thus, the idea I recently had: I decided to get a lot more âcerebralâ and detailed with the rules I have NOT yet taught anywhere, by continuing the series in the âEmail Playersâ newsletter itself. Instead of just breezing through them to keep a time limit, I can spend a lot of time, give a lot of examples & context, and make them a lot more valuable and applicable to those reading them. So I am continuing the next batch of Email Players Rules in next monthâs issue. If itâs a big enough hit, Iâll do more such issues in the future. Itâs definitely âexperimentalâ though. Not the usual format I use. So if you are a subscriber to it, and find it especially valuable, let me know. In the meantime, if you are not yet a subscriber, use the link below.
