The timeliest question of them all: “When is the best time of the day to send emails?” Man

The timeliest question of them all: “When is the best time of the day to send emails?” Many moons ago — around 2004, I believe — it was declared 2:00 PM EDT was best. If memory serves, I believe even Gary Halbert declared it so. So what happened? A bunch of goo-roo fanboys all started sending their emails at that time. And what happened then was, everyone’s inboxes were descended upon by the same marketing vultures who can’t think past “copy & steal!” and “what’s working now!” at that exact same time, ruining it as being the supposedly “best” time, assuming it even had been. The amusing thing is, it wasn’t really the best time anyway. It only was best for the marketers who (supposedly) tested it. More: Up until about 6 or 7 years ago I sent my daily emails at precisely 6:30 am PDT. I did this for multiple reasons I won’t go into here. And I did it with such ruthless precision you could literally set your watch to it. I had no real reason for doing so other than that was a little after I woke up each morning. I never tested it, didn't care to test it, and focused more no writing emails than obsessing over nonsense. But some time later, I discovered there were dozens, if not more, of marketers in a niche similar to mine — i.e., we had some of the same people on our lists — blindly copying the time I sent emails. Probably they were thinking "that must be the best time since Ben is doing it so I better copy it!" So what did I do? I decided to make my send times random. No rhyme or reason. No strategy or master plan. And no, I didn’t notice any less response. And the reason why is because it’s not really the time of the day doing the selling. The best time for me is whenever I want to send it. Yes, ideally, I would email at the same time each day. If for no other reason than because that’s the kind of ordered way I like to live my life, and to give my more eager readers something to depend on. But the copycats ruined that, it is what it is, and so it shall be. So instead of rueing the fact I try to use it to my advantage best I can. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
