While back, Email Players” subscriber Andrea Dell demonstrated how to grow a business with a small list: === Hey Ben, wanted to share a success that came as a result of implementing your wicked ways. I’ve used EP methodology for three and a half years for my clients’ emails, tweaking as needed to “make sense” for my clients’ markets. It’s helped me get comfortable with experimenting, too. This year I finally started my own email list, to help people with content ideas and fleshing them out. Right now this is a small list, built organically - only 50 people right now. (But they are good quality leads, almost all warm or hot, which I would rather have over 5000 shitty leads.) They weren’t responsive to my initial CTA, which was to book a consult. It was a quick offer I could use to get practice making an offer in every email, but finally I switched it up and offered a three-hour content workshop, for which I charged $19. Twelve people signed up. Of those twelve, 8 actually attended live, and 5 of them bought my 2-month package on the workshop, which was priced at $497. That’s $2485 (so far), plus the $228 in revenue from workshop registrations. The workshop, and what it covered, came as a result of emailing every day, seeing what my leads responded to, and “reading between the lines.” I emailed daily about registering for the workshop, too. The number of workshop registrations and 2-month program registrations exceeded my expectations, and I am SUPER happy about it. I know what I’ve learned and implemented from you is a big factor in it - especially selling the relationship. The relationship I have with these leads is a massive factor in why I got these kinds of a results from a 50-person email list. Thank you for all you do! And feel free to use this as a testimonial. Andrea === Speaking of lists: Back in March 2020 and just before the lockdowns, I hosted a livestream Q&A to help people stop freaking out, and maybe even put their minds at ease a bit. The TV garden gnome doctor was already starting his campaign of fear, and asked people submit questions if they couldn’t make it. Well, guess what? Over 50% of the questions were about email list building. Apparently, nobody was focusing on that during the good times during the prior few years despite my urging them to do so. But unfortunately for them, it was mostly too late. The time to build and grow an email list was the months and years leading up to that, not at the last minute, overnight. List building doesn’t work that way. Not if you want a responsive list, at least, that is not full of bum leads who will never buy from you and indeed will likely be hostile to you if you try. I bring this up as cautionary tale. Building an email list is like buying a car: The best time to do is is BEFORE you need to. But, hopefully Andrea's testimonial has given those who have even a small list hope. To learn how to write emails to sell to even small lists see the Email Players newsletter.
