Earlier this year I got an email from a bloke in Germany asking: === Do I have to pay for the delivery costs because I'm living in Germany? The costs are quite high... I just want to make sure that I will receive the book. And I want to receive the book without paying hundreds of dollars for the shipping. Thanks for your understanding! === All my sales pages say I pay for the shipping. But, not customs or delivery fees. So my answer was what I tell anyone asking such questions: “___you seem a nice fellow, but also a pain in the ass. If you're on so tight a budget you're worried about extra customs charges, which are 100% out of my control and totally up to your government, you're not ready for the info in the book. I am going to refund your order. Don't get angry, just get your shyt together.” To his credit he did NOT get angry. And, in fact, I foresee there is hope for him as he replied with: “I will. Then Ill buy 🫡 ” This is the thing people have to understand: I am already paying for your shipping (if yours is a country we ship to, there is a growing list of them I don't ship to) when you buy from my site. Yes, I pay for it even though with today’s inflation and constantly rising shipping fees I should and justifiably could be charging for shipping. But I still don’t. Not yet, at least. Nor do I intend to, unless Creepy Joe’s economic policies reach the point where I have no choice. But some of these guys really think I’m going to pay their customs or delivery fees or whatever too. What else do they want me to pay for? Their taxes, too? Yeesh. That’s how it goes in times like these though. Which is why testing your customers at every opportunity is a must, like I wrote about a few years ago in the 10th anniversary Email Players issue about trying to break customers and clients. Not break them in an abusive way obviously. But test them for compliance, for obedience, for intelligence, common sense, patience, ethics, and anything else important to you in a customer. My German pal above passed that test. But he is a rarity. Most people today react very angrily to correction. And, thus, get banned and ignored. On a cheerier note: If you have not yet checked out the free BerserkerMail YouTube channel you can get all kinds of email, marketing, copywriting ideas, tips, training without paying anything. Perfect for the entitled fugkers out there who want me to pay their taxes, car note, and mortgage while I’m paying for their shipping especially… Here is the link: [( Ben Settle This email was sent by Ben Settle as owner of Settle, LLC. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
