If I had to sum up the “secret” to writing world-class emails that can help make sales, help create lifelong customers, and help build unusually strong, “mutant-like” relationships between email writer and email reader, it would be this ditty from Aristotle: "To write well, express yourself like the common people, but think like a wise man." Very simple. Definitely not “easy” for most. But when you understand it, and truly get it, you’ll see it everywhere almost like Neo seeing the Matrix in code. Not just in business & marketing. But also in every day life, and especially in certain movies, where examples abound. Take the chick flick Titanic for example. Stefania and I recently gave it a watch. And there was one scene that had me perked up, pointing at the screen from my recliner "Rick Dalton style," and pausing the movie for some discussion about how it relates to sales, marketing, and any other kind of influence. Context: The character Rose is contemplating killing herself by jumping off the ship. And the character Jack Dawson decides to intervene. But, he does not do it with the typical reasoning and pleading. He instead tells her he will have to jump in after her. When she says no, he won’t, the fall would kill him too, yada yada yada… he says: JACK: It would hurt. I’m not saying it wouldn’t. To be honest I’m a lot more concerned about the water being so cold. ROSE: How cold? JACK: Freezing. Maybe a couple degrees over. Ever been to Wisconsin? ROSE: No. JACK: Well they have some of the coldest winters around, and I grew up there, near Chippewa Falls. Once when I was a kid me and my father were ice-fishing out on Lake Wissota... ice-fishing's where you chop a hole in the— ROSE: I know what ice fishing is! JACK: Sorry. Just... you look like kind of an indoor girl. Anyway, I went through some thin ice and I'm tellin' ya, water that cold... like that right down there... it hits you like a thousand knives all over your body. You can’t breath, you can’t think... least not about anything but the pain. Which is why I’m not looking forward to jumping in after you. But like I said, I don't see a choice. I guess I'm kinda hoping you'll come back over the rail and get me off the hook here. Short story long: Mansplaining saves the day. All right that’s enough internet for me today. The above is a salt watery taste of one of the principles of persuasion & influence my book “NOfluence” teaches. An during this week's sale (until tonight Thursday, June 20 at midnight EDT - check your time zones if you don't want to miss it, you been warned...) you can have it at a $100.00 discount (so for $500.00 instead of $600.00) off the listed price at the link below.
