Let me tell you a story. Back in my client days I once got referred to a potentially very big client to write their sales copy. And I got to talking to the would-be client about his business, his offers, what was going on, where they were struggling with conversions, who had been writing their ads and how they failed (and what they did right), and all the usual digging I’d do when talking to someone to see if I could help them or not. And eventually we started talking about hiring me. He still seemed a bit apprehensive though. And, really, I could not blame him. They’d wasted a lot of money on copywriters. And so I was not really sure it was going to happen. That is, until I asked a question I had not pre-planned. The question was not secksy at all either. Certainly you won’t see it on any lists of books about closing sales. And yet this one close (6 words long literally) not only closed the sale almost on the spot, but got me paid a lot more than I would have gotten paid otherwise, and that client experience ended up leading to many lessons learned about marketing I have applied to my own business, led to many customers even up to today who found me as a result of working for that business, and created relationships that have been quite lucrative in many other ways, too. All from this 6-word question. That I threw out almost as an after thought. And that is so simple it’s actually laughable. It’s also something nobody taught me to ask. I just did it mostly as a way to continue a dying conversation. Now, I am not saying this close will work for 100% of people 100% of the time. I am not even saying it will “work” at all because there are always variables outside your control, there are always timing issues, and there are always things you could say to fook it up after that. But, I do believe this question can give one house odds. Or, at least, “up” the chances of a conversation about hiring you go forward. It also can very likely be used to help close clients on most any other kind of services — not just copywriting or copywriting-related services. I happen to have used it for copywriting. But I could just as easily have used this 6-word close to sell coaching, consulting, or even something like lawn mowing or dog walking services if I wanted to. All right enough build up. What is this 6-word close? You didn’t really think I’d give it away free, did you? But worry ye not. While I absolutely am not giving it away free, I absolutely am giving it away cheap. And I am giving it away cheap to those who buy my Email Bastard! course (for mere chump change compared to what I believe it is worth — certainly compared to what people paid to attend the talks I gave at the various events that the course is made up of) before the deadline in a couple hours. Details are at the link below. This is the last email I will send about it. You’re either in or out at this point. Either way, the deadline is at midnight EDT tonight Friday May 10. Here’s the link: [https∶//www.EmailPlayers.com/bastard]( Ben Settle P.S. This course is made up of multiple talks I’ve done at various events people paid not a little bit of money to attend. And some of the info inside has been included in other offers I’ve sold over the years. So read the sales letter carefully before buying if you don’t want to just end up buying the same information all over again. This email was sent by Ben Settle as owner of Settle, LLC. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
