Democracies don't fail overnight. It happens little by little, with people like Donald Trump normalizing the rejection of free and fair election results, partisan extremists rigging districts to shore-up supermajorities in state legislatures, and the corruption of our campaign finance laws – which currently allow corporations who pollute our air, exploit their workers, and hoard societal wealth to buy entire elections. If we’re serious about defending the future of our democracy, then all of this must end. When I launched my campaign for Congress last year, I swore off all contributions from corporate PACs – no exceptions. Instead, we built a campaign powered by more small, individual contributions than any other candidate who ran for this seat – and we won.
