This week’s edition: The Devil’s Goatee The Devil has been a goatee guy for centuries. It’s as much a part of his look as horns and a tail. But there was one year when he tried to do a major overhaul on his appearance, and got rid of the goatee. We talked to Deidra Saunders — a publicist at Infernal Influence PR, the public relations firm responsible for managing Lucifer’s image since 1987. We asked her to tell us more about the “rebranding” project they worked on. “It all started in 2016,” says Deidra. “Lucifer had seen a bunch of articles about facial hair and how guys with goatees were no longer considered hot. I don’t know if you know this, but Lu is very concerned about being hot. He has to be the hottest. Well, anyway, he wanted to lose the goatee and switch to designer stubble, which was very en vogue at the time.” Deidra went on to tell us that the rebranding campaign didn’t really work out the way they had wanted it to: “Lu kind of disappeared when he lost the goatee. He just blended in with everybody else. That was okay for a little while… but ultimately, the guy wanted to be recognized again, so he grew the goatee back.” When asked if she regretted the campaign, Deidra had this to say: “In hindsight, we probably should have pushed back on his idea about losing the goatee and suggested something more subtle, like switching to [Beardbrand products](.
