I have what my peers will never have

For the first half of my life, I was in learning and building mode. It was something that was ingrained in me from birth. I wanted to win and I wanted more. These desires would set me up for a big crash when I didn't win or I didn't meet my expectations. I wasn't able to step back and admire what I had accomplished because I had failed to achieve my goals. So, despite being successful, I constantly felt like I was failing. I was never growing fast enough, making a big enough impact, or hitting my targets. I would only compare my journey to the 1% of 1% and wonder why I couldn't be like them. When you compare yourself to others, there’s always going to be a better person. Even a man like Tom Brady, who holds the most remarkable records in the NFL, could fall into this trap. After all, he lost millions of dollars in FTX and went through a divorce with his wife. At a certain point, I realized I was playing a game that had no real winners or losers – I learned that the goal wasn't to compare myself to my peers, it was to compare myself to my past. What have I overcome? How did I grow? How am I setting myself up for the future? By doing this, I realized the incredible things I have in my life: loving family and friends, a nice home close to work, business partners and co-workers who are a joy to work with, my health, my parents, and the list goes on. I have enough. To work for more is to just get fancier options on a car, or being able to retire a little bit earlier. Yes, those are nice, but they're not worth being miserable during the journey. Instead, I found it's better to appreciate what I have, to make sure I enjoy the journey, and strive to grow as a person. Like everyone, I have bad days and I have days that I get off track.
