[Beardbrand Logo]( AN UPSET IN THE MAKING Itâs March Madness and weâve been known to make [a bracket]( or two over the years to find out the best beard and mustache style. Thereâs something about the excitement of a tourney and the chance that anyone can win it all. For those who have had success throughout the season, the expectations can be sky-high. This year, Furman, from my hometown of Greenville, upset Virginia. Most people will focus on the Cinderella and how magical the upset victory was but I want you to think about the favorite. Those are the people who worked hard, trained hard, had more natural talent and, in theory, did all the important things to get them in the spot of the favorite. For them, the upset is the worst thing to happen. They were supposed to make it to the Elite Eight. They were supposed to blow out Furman. What happens in life when things go unexpectedly bad? For Virginia, theyâve been here before. As a number one seed, they were upset, and the next year they came back to win the National Championship. The reality is that life is a grind. There are ups and there are downs. When you look at life as a fixed pie with only one winner, you will constantly be disappointed. There are growth opportunities in failure. The failures are where you discover ways to improve, ways to grow, and ways to level up. There are two outcomes from being upset: - You can wallow in pity and look at yourself in the mirror as a loser.
- You can look at that man in the mirror and think about the opportunities for growth. You need to choose the second option. Setbacks are part of life. How you look at a setback is the difference between a remarkable life and the life of a victim. Hopefully, your life is not âmadnessâ like the tournament, and instead of focusing on upsets in your life, you are focusing on your victories. There certainly are many of them if you look for them.
