We know it’s grim to bring this up—but many of the reasons for this shorter lifespan are preventable. Let’s break it down: - According to the [CDC’s]( most recent numbers, cancer is the leading cause of death for men ages 45-84, with a rate between 24.7% and 27.5%. - The five most common cancers in men are prostate cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, bladder cancer, and skin cancer. - The second leading cause of death for men ages 20-44 is suicide. At 13.8%, that’s almost twice as much as women in the same age range. Look, these numbers suck, and they aren’t fun to talk about—which is why it’s critical that we do. And two great organizations helping to lead the charge in lowering these numbers are [No-Shave November]( and [Movember](. Growing a beard or mustache in November is a great way to raise awareness, but positive change also requires action. Regular health screenings increase the likelihood of early detection of cancer, significantly increasing the chances of whipping cancer’s ass. We also created the [Beardbrand Alliance]( to help bring together a community of over 4,000 fellow growth-minded men, and that community is growing every day.
