Does your beard dry out quickly? Or Is your hair wavy, curly, coarse, and always extra frizzy? If so, co-washing might be just what the doctor ordered to help your beard and hair look and feel better. Here’s a primer to get you started with co-washing today (or tomorrow if you’ve already showered today).  WHAT IS CO-WASHING? Co-washing is short for conditioner washing. When most people wash their hair, they use Shampoo and then follow it up with Conditioner. With co-washing, you’re skipping the Shampoo and only using the Conditioner. The same applies to your beard, but with Beard Softener (our version of a beard conditioner).  WHY IT WORKS Think of Shampoo and Beard Wash as your deep cleansers. For most people, using Shampoo and Beard Wash daily would strip away too much oil from the scalp and face, leaving head and beard hair dry, wiry, and brittle. However, Beardbrand Conditioner and Beard Softener contain enough cleansing agents to handle the daily washing duties while still providing moisturizing, strengthening, and softening for the hair.  WHO SHOULD CO-WASH? If you have dry, wavy, curly, coarse, or medium-textured head or beard hair, you should absolutely try the co-washing method. Your hair needs all the oil it can get, so you don’t want to strip away too much of it by using Shampoo and Beard Wash too frequently. Conversely, if you have fine or overly oily hair, you probably want to pass on co-washing as it will just leave your hair flat. If you work a job where your hair and beard get dirty daily, you’ll probably want to skip this too.  HOW TO CO-WASH Skip the Shampoo and Beard Wash the next time your shower. Use Beardbrand Conditioner and Beard Softener as you usually would. That’s all there is to it. Then, every few days, do a deep clean of your hair and beard with Shampoo and Beard Wash, followed by Conditioner and Beard Softener. The frequency in which you do this “deep clean” varies from person to person. Some do it every other day, and some do it every five days. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to co-washing, and it will take a little experimenting to find what works best for your hair and beard. You’re now a co-washing expert.
