[I am personally asking for your signature, {NAME}. I need 800 people to add their name to my open letter to principals everywhere to DEMAND change in school security. Since politicians have allowed communities to flood with guns, principals must assume every threat could lead to a mass shooting. We MUST protect our children and keep our schools safe. Will you sign your name before midnight to let principals know how worried thousands of parents are? >>]( {NAME}, I've seen what happens when school administrators ignore the warning signs of a potential threat to the safety of students -- [and the consequences are deadly.]( I saw it when my sweet 14-year-old nephew, Alex, was shot and murdered while sitting at his desk almost 4 years ago. I saw it when four students in Oxford, Michigan were shot and murdered at their school just a few weeks ago. All because school administrators failed to act on the warning signs. [Which is why I’m DEMANDING our school principals take threats of violence seriously.]( [So I need your help, {NAME}. I’m releasing an open letter to principals everywhere, calling on them to improve protocols for handling a potential threat. And I’m posting all our signatures online, so they know how thousands of other worried parents feel. I need 800 people to add their name before midnight to let principals know we will not sit by while our children are murdered in their schools. Since we can't depend on politicians to save our children, our only hope is that school principals are paying attention. Will you sign our open letter to DEMAND safe schools everywhere? >>]( [SIGN OUR OPEN LETTER NOW >>]( I’m releasing the entirety of my open letter below for all of my supporters to read and sign -- and I hope you’ll join me today in adding your name to demand action from school principals across the country. [SIGN THE OPEN LETTER BELOW >>]( [SIGN MY LETTER TO SCHOOL PRINCIPALS EVERYWHERE:]( To Whom it May Concern, We are in the midst of a national crisis. There have been at least 149 gunfire incidents on school property, 32 deaths, and 94 injured in 2021 alone. This month we saw hundreds of schools across the country closing at an unprecedented rate due to a slew of violent threats. In the wake of the Oxford High School shooting where 4 students were killed and 11 shot and all of the red flags that were missed, I feel compelled to implore you to remind all school personnel and security to be on high alert. Please make sure all gates and doors are locked. If there is a student that is displaying troubled behavior, please call the police and inspect their backpack and locker. There should be zero tolerance for violent behavior. The school in Michigan overlooked warning signs even though the student was caught Googling where to buy ammunition. You are responsible for my children and I really appreciate everything you do, but we live in a very troubled and worrisome time. I am scared every day I send my kids to school that they will not return home. Thank you, {NAME} [SIGN OUR OPEN LETTER NOW >>]( Thanks for adding your name today, Gail Schwartz [Gail Schwartz]( Chair, Ban Assault Weapons NOW Heartbroken aunt of Parkland shooting victim BAWN is committed to replacing every cowardly and complacent lawmaker, regardless of party, that denies your right to live without fear of being shot. Legislators that support the deadly proliferation of guns, instead of common sense gun safety measures, are responsible for the carnage of gun violence -- and must be voted out. BAWN also lobbies legislators to support the assault weapon and large capacity magazine ban bills that will help put an end to the slaughter of innocent Americans. But they can’t do this alone. BAWN is relying on your support to kick every single NRA-backed politician OUT of office. Will you chip in right away?
