{NAME}, I knew something was wrong when the fire alarm went off for the second time that day. Sitting in my fourth-period class at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, we all thought it was just a Valentine's Day prank. So I called my brother, and he just told me, "Lauren, something's going on. Hide, hide, hide." I can't describe how scared I felt at that moment. We piled into the corner of a closet, and my phone started blowing up with texts from friends in the freshman building where the shooting was taking place: "Did somebody just hear gunshots? What's happening?" "I hear somebody coming down the hall. There's kids screaming." "There's smoke in our room. There's shooting." "My teacher's down. Things are going bad." "There's somebody shooting into my room. I love you guys. Tell my parents I love them." A gunman with an assault weapon murdered four of my friends that day – and I'll never be the same. I miss them so much. We had spent days on end just talking about what we wanted to do when we grow up, where we wanted to go to college. Now, they're just gone. I know if our places were reversed, they would be fighting for me – fighting to make sure no other kids have to be killed by assault weapons in their own school. So I'm doing everything in my power to make that happen: I'm standing alongside BAWN to defeat the NRA and ban assault weapons in Florida like the one used to murder my friends. But it's not just me who needs to step up. To accomplish our lifesaving mission, we need your help. We've got the NRA on the run, {NAME}. They're up against a major lawsuit that could dismantle its very existence. Not only that, but BAWN's slate of endorsed candidates dealt the pro-gun lobby a series of defeats on Election Day. All of this means we are closer than ever to banning assault weapons. But we are still up against millions and millions of dollars in the NRA's war chest, and they're actively shelling out massive sums of money to maintain their hold on our gun laws. That's why I'm personally reaching out to you today. BAWN is facing down a $20,000 budget shortfall that we must close by midnight tonight if we're going to have the funds we need to prevent the sort of senseless gun violence that devastated Parkland. We have no hope of closing this gap without you, so I'm asking you to give now to help us ban assault weapons once and for all: [Please, can I count on you to make a donation of $3 or more right now to defeat the NRA and ban assault weapons in Florida like the one used to murder four of my friends? Any amount you can spare will directly fuel our lifesaving movement.]( We all have the power to stop these tragedies from becoming the new normal – and we have to use it. Thank you so much for your support. Lauren Hogg Parkland Shooting Survivor This email was sent to {EMAIL}.
