Basecamp August 2017 Newsletter Basecamp January 2017 Newsletter. [View this email in your browser]( [Basecamp] Hello everyone! Your regularly scheduled storyteller, Andrea, is on a well-deserved sabattical. So you're stuck with me ([Dan]( for the next 90 seconds. I hope you're all having a fantastic summer. August is officially off to a great start — the Cubs are in first (the White Sox...aren't), the weather is weirdly temperate, Lollapalooza is thankfully over, and Game of Thrones is really good so far. So let's keep the good times rolling with some super cool stuff we've been working on at Basecamp... 🙉 Focus! A really important part of doing my best work is minimizing distractions. As a programmer, I need big chunks of uninterrupted time to really get into a groove. The problem is that I'm a bit compulsive about clearing unread badges in Basecamp. A lot of times I'll need to find a document or a to-do list for what I'm working on, and I'll see those unread badges calling out to me. Invariably I'll click into something and break my flow. No longer! We just added a helpful new feature called Focus Mode. When you turn it on, Basecamp will do a couple things to help keep you on the straight and narrow: - We'll hide all the unread badges on the Basecamp toolbar. We'll keep track of all your unreads under the hood of course, but you won't see any indicators about them. - We'll turn off notifications, including emails and push notifications. That way while you're focusing on an important bit of work, we aren't creating possible distractions. Everything is still in Basecamp's Hey menu and will be waiting for you when you're ready. When you turn focus mode on, it'll stay on until the end of the day (midnight). After that Basecamp goes back to normal for your next work day. I've already found this to be super valuable for my workflow and we think it'll be a big help in keeping you on task. Give it a try! 🎨 Be colorful Sometimes I really want to drive a point home in my writing, but boring old bold and italics just doesn't do it justice. So I'm happy to report that the dark ages of black and white text are over. You can now write in full color in documents, message, comments, and check-in answers! Start writing and you'll now see a new paint bucket icon on the composer toolbar. Click that and you can pick the foreground and background color of any text. Here's that really important point that I needed to make, in full color: We hope this'll help you get your points across more easily. Get coloring! 🎧 Reworking The Distance Our beloved podcast, [The Distance]( (which tells amazing stories of long-lasting businesses) is coming to an end. We are super proud of the work that our producers [Wailin Wong]( and [Shaun Hildner]( have done in creating that show. We're sad to see it go, but those wonderful stories will live on forever. But here's the good news: Wailin and Shaun will be taking their mad podcast production skills to work on [a new show called Rework]( Rework will be about better ways to work and run your business. We'll share stories and unconventional wisdom from Jason and David, as well as other business owners. The first shows are coming along nicely, and [here's a little teaser]( of what's coming up. We're excited to share this new podcast with you. Tune in on August 15th for the first episode! Thanks for reading and have a wonderful month! -Dan Basecamp Still running your business on email, texts and meetings? Stuff slipping? Getting chaotic? Start 2017 off right by switching to Basecamp. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
