Hey, Today I’m going to break down a handful of outreach emails that people recently sent me. You’ve probably seen plenty of people share screenshots of bad outreach emails: “Look at this idiot! HAHAHAHAHA”. And yeah, it’s fun to make fun of people that send terrible outreach emails. But you don’t learn that much. In my experience, breaking down good outreach emails is much more helpful. So let’s take a look at a few really good outreach emails that I recently received. I’ll explain why they work. And how you can apply these lessons and tactics to improve your own outreach. [Funny outreach email] The first thing you’ll notice is that the person sending this email, Benyamin, decided to use humor. And I have to admit: this made me laugh. He used one of my famous scripts against me! Is humor the right move for every situation? No. But when used right, it can really help you stand out. Also, notice how Benyamin wasn’t pushy. He could have easily said something like: “If you like the content, please share it with your followers”. But Benyamin knew that there’s no need to even ask. I’m not stupid. If I like it and think the Backlinko community would benefit from it, I’ll share it. There’s no need to twist my arm. (In fact, I did end up sharing his post) Which leads us to our second email... [Another great outreach email] So, what’s so great about this email? And how can you replicate it? First off, Dave is crystal clear with what he wants. Most outreach emails fail because they’re super vague. They ask for a link… but don’t tell you where to link. They’re interested in a “partnership”.... but don’t give you any idea of what that means. They want to guest post on your site… but they don’t send any potential topics. Dave doesn’t hesitate to let me know what he’s looking for. So that’s win #1. Win #2 is the one that I want you to pay the most attention to. Note how Dave outlines EXACTLY how I’ll benefit from going on his podcast. In other words, he answers the important question: “What’s in it for me?”. So instead of begging and pleading, Dave lets me know exactly how I’ll benefit (with specific numbers to back it up). My only nitpick is that Dave’s message is a sentence or two too long. With some editing I think Dave could cut out a line or two. But again, this is more of a nitpick than a criticism. This is a great outreach email. And now it’s time for our last outreach email... [Kyle outreach email] Like Dave’s email, Kyle gets right into what he wants: for me to contribute a quote for an upcoming post. So far so good. Then, Kyle points out that Noah Kagan already contributed. That kind of social proof can boost your outreach conversion rate 2-3x. Finally, you probably noticed that Kyle’s message is insanely personalized. And by personalized, I don’t mean using my name. He literally writes: “since you’ve been putting so much work into YouTube lately”. That little bit of extra personalization REALLY helps your message stand out. It also dramatically increases the odds that you’ll get a reply. With that, I have an announcement for you: Tomorrow (June 15th) I'm opening enrollment for my new premium training course, Grow Your Blog Fast. Grow Your Blog Fast is the only program that shows you exactly how to grow your blog in record time, step-by-step. (Including the exact strategies I used to grow Backlinko to 500k+ visitors per month) I'll send you more information about Grow Your Blog Fast tomorrow morning. Talk to you then. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
