In Spanish, the word "sirena" means "mermaid" or "siren" - as in one of the mythical creatures from Homer's Odyssey. If we were in the US, we would have no problem with this. However, we live in Costa Rica (where we intend to raise our child) and since it is a Spanish-speaking country, we don't know if this would be a weird name or one that the kid would end up hating.
