Let’s set the record straight! Hi {NAME}, When it comes to making a living as a freelance writer, most folks think the only way to get paid is to write magazine articles… short stories… novels… or even poetry. Who can blame them? It’s what many writers do. And then they burn out! Heck, I used to think that way, too… But “writing for pennies” is a much harder way to make money. The competition to get your work published is fierce — so much so that the odds are stacked against you. Only about one in 1,000 people are lucky enough to get their work published. And even if you are one of those lucky few, the pay is, well… pitiful. Most major magazines pay $1.28 per word for a 1,000-word feature article. That works out to $1,280 for one assignment. Now, even though that might sound like a decent amount of money, at that rate, you’d have to write at least 79 articles to make more than $100,000 a year. Yet that’s extremely difficult to do, because as I said, the competition to get your work published is fierce. And the pay for writing a short story or poem is considerably lower… maybe $50 or $100 for each submission. To earn close to a six-figure income, you’d have to write at least 1,000 poems and have every single one of them published. As for being an author… well, if you spent five years of your life writing a novel, you’d be lucky to get a $5,000 advance from the publisher — that’s an income of $1,000 a year! Or worse yet, you might be forced to self-publish it… in which case, you’d probably wind up losing money in the end. The good news is, there’s [a MUCH better way](. It’s the kind of writing I do — that got me out of debt and allows me to make a six-figure income writing just 20 hours a week. And it’s also the same kind of writing this unemployed corporate executive used to still make a Fortune-500-company-style income. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
