This will help you change that, now… [The Writer’ s Life]( October 16, 2023 "You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." – Martin Luther King, Jr. Happy Monday, {NAME}! After more than 20 years of personally working with writers, I believe there's an assumption that lurks in the minds of writers gearing up to start … or gearing up to take their business to the next level … It's the mistaken belief that one day you'll feel "ready." Ready, like when the coffee is brewed or the meal is all prepared. A specific point where all the elements are aligned. But it doesn't actually work that way. Instead, the trick, the secret is to start whether you feel ready or not. As today's quote says, you don't need to see the whole staircase to take the first step. Because something happens when you take one step, one decisive action. And that's one of the key points Ted Capshaw and Jade Trueblood talk about in today's Monday Morning Jumpstart. They reveal what your first actions should be to get started, and how simple they really can be. Give it a watch and feel more ready for your first step, or your next big one. There's one other point I'd like to make after listening to the language Ted uses in this episode. More than once he says, "I chose …" That's a powerful phrase — because making a choice is a powerful thing. It sends a message to the world (and your brain) that you're taking decisive action. Starting from today, I'd encourage you to think: "I choose _____" and then fill in the blank with what you're going to do next. Ted shares how things changed for him once he made a choice, and how it shifts the dynamics of your situation. Momentum begins to build. And opportunities will open up for you, and you'll find new steps will keep appearing on the staircase in front of you.
