The demand is through the roof â with fees at $200-$500 per scripted minute [The Writer’ s Life](
April 21, 2023 "To make a great film, you need three things — the script, the script, and the script."
– Alfred Hitchcock Hi {NAME}, If you spend anytime online, you know how popular video is now! YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, are only a portion of the social media networks hosting countless new videos. The current average viewer spends 100 minutes a day watching digital videos, according to Oberlo — and online video consumption is only going UP from there. YouTube alone has about 720,000 HOURS of fresh video content uploaded PER DAY! Yep, video is hot. 🔥 So it's no wonder marketers want to be on board with the video trend. But they need good scripts! Businesses need a variety of video messages for their prospects and customers, and AWAI Success and actor-copywriter Robert Rice is here today to highlight seven types you could be paid to write. And at $200 to $500 per scripted minute, these quick video writing projects could be your fastest path to extra income. With a bit of training, you could be the writer to help businesses bring their stories to life. Video script writing is a fun, in-demand skill, and it opens the door to lasting work your client will request again and again. By Robert Rice [Smiling man in headphones sitting at desk working on laptop writing notes] The average user spends anywhere from one to two hours on social media each day. And most of that time is spent watching video. That's why in 2022, 79% of marketers developed a video strategy for their businesses. And 99% of those who already use video are planning to expand it, according to HubSpot. Of course, executing a video strategy is easier said than done. Most small- to mid-sized businesses do not have enough staff to dedicate someone to social media, let alone video. And even though recording and editing is simpler than ever due to smartphones, someone still needs to plan the content and write scripts to shoot. That's where you come in. If you understand the ins and outs of great scripts, which is pretty similar to great copy, you'll be the superhero who saves the day. A very well-paid superhero at that. In the U.S. alone, Forbes has reported that businesses are set to spend $135 billion on the promotion of digital videos alone. Even a small piece of that pie can quickly bring you to the six-figure writer's life of your dreams. And as you'll see shortly, you won't need a lot of clients to get there. So if you're looking to add a fun and lucrative branch to your copywriting business, here are seven popular video scripts businesses are seeking right now. 1. How-To Videos How-to videos educate viewers on how to use a product. These have traditionally been used as video instruction booklets to help customers understand a product they just purchased. However, social media marketing has transformed them into a powerful selling tool for savvy businesses. Think about it: if you're in the market for a blender, which one would you go for? The one with a detailed how-to video on their Instagram page showing what all the buttons do? Or the one with only a few pictures and a short text description? The video will have the edge nearly every time. 2. Product Demos A product demo differs from a how-to video in that it's a full demonstration of everything a product can do. They allow buyers to more easily make informed buying decisions, as well as provide an opportunity to build brand recognition. According to a 2023 video marketing report, 88% of people say they've been convinced to buy a product or service from watching a brand's video. Demos can be as simple as a walkthrough of the product's features all the way to a day-in-the-life video of a customer using the product, including any set up, clean up, and so on. It's up to how the business wants to present what they do, and the complexity of the product. 3. Explainer Videos Explainer videos are simply short marketing videos which clearly explain your company's product or service. They help buyers better understand why they need your products or services. These usually reside on a landing page, website's homepage, or a prominent product page. 4. Testimonials and Case Studies Testimonials and case studies help businesses prove that their product or service works. Testimonials generally come straight from the customer's mouth. Case studies are typically presented in the format of "a client had a problem, here is how our product/service solved their problem." In the past, case studies were strictly written documents telling this story. With the power of video, you can now show how the customer's problem was solved. When viewers see the client talking about how the product/service helped them, you build credibility and social proof for the business. Not to mention, they will be more likely to share it with others. 5. Vlogs A vlog is a colloquial term for a video blog. Just like blogging, vlogging is an opportunity for businesses to connect with their prospects on a routine basis. And the nature of the content is entirely up to you. Employees could regularly vlog about their personal passions for the product … an in-house expert could share weekly educational tips … they could even share cool "product hacks" … the sky is the limit. Whatever the subject matter may be, the key to successful vlogs is consistency. If you start vlogging, you need to keep vlogging to build momentum. As a writer, this means healthy retainer contracts with just a handful of clients. Not to mention the privilege of regularly doing something creative and fun. 6. Interview Video Series Video interviews are great for building brand authority and trust. Why? When one business owner or leader interviews their respected peers (other business or community leaders), it reflects well on the person conducting the interviews. It's kind of a halo effect. They gain a sense of status and authority, simply by talking one-on-one with respected peers. Another angle is to interview thought leaders. They can educate your audience about the industry, and update them on current trends and opportunities. The best part about interviews is you can easily spin them into multipart series. Used in this way, interviews complement or even replace standard blogs. They're a powerful content marketing tool. 7. Brand Stories This behind-the-scenes view helps prospects connect with the brand, learn the brand's history, and discover more about any philosophies that drive the culture and mission. Prospects can also get to know the people who run the business. In a company culture video, you: - Tell a story about your client's business.
- Show what happens behind-the-scenes.
- Give consumers an exclusive sneak peek at why this business stands out from their competition.
- Tell consumers who the business is and what it stands for. A company culture video reflects the mood and voice of the business … whether that's calm and assured, upbeat and quirky, outdoorsy, or something else. The biggest strength of company culture videos? They're perfect for personalizing the business. This isn't just another big business. Rather, it's filled with real people who care about their customers. Where Creativity and Income Collide Every single business on this planet can benefit from video. From a law firm to a florist to a vitamin company, there's at least one video in the list of seven that will help them thrive. And that means a massive amount of opportunity for you, no matter your niche. Not to mention, it's fun! Script writing is creative and fulfilling, allowing you to help businesses bring authenticity into their marketing strategies. So why not give it a try? Once you know the key to writing killer video scripts, you'll be able to write your own ticket for the writer's life. The demand is higher than ever, but the high starting fees are what's really exciting … $200 to $500 for each minute-long script written. (It's typically less than a page of copy.)
