Follow this template you won’t have seen anywhere else [The Writer’ s Life]( March 29, 2023 "A good instructor teaches students how to fight, a great instructor teaches students how to live." – Ricardo Almeida Hi {NAME}, When the Great Resignation began in early 2021, the majority of workers who quit a job cited low pay, job dissatisfaction, and not enough flexibility with their work hours as some of their main reasons. Working long hours — often with low pay — people had had enough. And the exodus and reshuffling is still rippling through the workplace now. Ben Settle made his move years ahead of the Great Resignation, but his reasons were very similar. He knew he needed to find something he wanted to do … for better pay … working much shorter hours. But even after years as a highly successful copywriter, Ben realized there was no exact path to where he wanted to go next. So he started researching and reading. He studied master instructors like Gene Schwartz, David Ogilvy, Gary Bencivenga, and more, and [developed a blueprint]( that would let him combine his love of writing with his goal of making money — without answering to anyone but himself. In today's issue, Ben outlines a clientless copywriting business "framework" you can use to reach that goal in your own life. And if you think it might be a fit, Ben will even instruct you in a process you can duplicate, so you can make the money you want — with no one to answer to but yourself. As with anything, finding success is easier and faster when you follow a well-traveled path. So, if you're looking to make money writing from anywhere in the world — without answering to clients — this might very well be right for you! [Check out his proven blueprint today.]( And now, over to Ben! To your success, Rebecca Matter President AWAI P.S. Ben always offers valuable suggestions. [Expires at midnight!]]( The Ancient Clientless Copywriting Secret of "Muay Buy" Marketing By Ben Settle [Male Writer Sitting on a Bed and Typing on his Laptop] If you want a clientless copywriting business "framework" handed to you on a silver platter … one you can use and run with as early as today … then this article can do that and a whole lot more. Here's the story … Not long ago, one of my Email Players subscribers asked me a question about getting his own clientless copywriting business going. And the answer I handed him can work reliably and frictionlessly for just about any kind of info-related offer spanning multiple niches and markets. First, I'll show his question, then I'll show you my answer. Simply take my commentary afterwards and "convert" it to what you want to sell. All right, here goes: "Hey, Ben, I'm a former amateur boxer, did Muay Thai for a while and still practice striking, boxing, and kickboxing at least one to two times a week as a hobby. I always find myself teaching people how to box when I'm at the gym. I was thinking of becoming a striking coach, sharing with a YouTube channel just to show all the things I'm learning as I master striking, and then turn it into a proper info publishing business once I start to build up a bit of authority in the space. I know some businesses like this as I used to watch YouTube tutorials all the time. They sell programs, but I have no clue if they're actually making real money. I just assume there's surely a market for martial arts instruction, especially popular ones like boxing and Muay Thai. But could I be wrong? I would love to make money doing something I'm passionate about like that in a business where I wouldn't have to rely on employees. Advice?" It's a great question. Especially for anyone interested in my clientless copywriting approach. So, the following is my advice, and it can be adapted to nearly any other market/industry/product category. Here goes … First, it's okay to teach Muay Thai and boxing. There are lots of markets, lists, traffic, ample potential JV partners, and opportunities to do so. In fact, a lot of specialists in various self-defense disciplines are horrible at marketing and selling. You could easily compete in Muay Thai, for example, and probably clean up. But I would not recommend that. Instead, I'm going to pass on something I learned when I was in the self-defense niche. The client I worked for sold his company years ago. But he was easily the biggest in his niche at the time. And I would suggest doing what he did. Specifically, I would not recommend trying to teach Muay Thai or any specific type of self-defense or boxing or martial art. I'm not saying you can't do it. And I'm not saying you can't make a lot of money doing it. But instead of selling a specific type of martial art and self-defense system, I suggest selling them on how you can turn them into the proverbial … Badass! Yes, there are people looking for specifics in all niches and markets. But there are usually a lot more people looking for a general benefit. So, for example, my client was selling what's known as "Close Combat Training." A very specific kind of fighting system used by U.S. and UK soldiers in World War II to kill Nazis with their bare hands. And he learned through a lot of expensive testing and research (he literally hired the Nielsen Company — that does TV ratings — to analyze 10,000 of his buyers to see who they were) that his market was not martial arts enthusiasts. These were just regular guys. And, even better, regular guys that fit the late Gary Halbert's description of: "Players with Money" These are the best markets to sell to. And in my client's case, he found out his buyers were high level, "Type-A" personality men. Specifically, they were weekend warriors who make a lot of money (executives, business owners, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, etc.) in their forties and fifties and sixties. They were also insecure about their ability to defend themselves or their families, or who just wanted people to think they were badasses not to be messed with. In other words … They didn't read Blackbelt Magazine. They didn't browse martial arts forums or social media pages. And, frankly … They Wouldn't Have Known the Difference Between Kung Fu and Kung Pow Chicken! They just wanted to be badasses. You're not going to sell them on any specific martial arts or self-defense. They don't care or have any context for anything specific beyond just wanting to be badasses. Probably the only martial artists they knew of were Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan. So we rewrote (it's what he hired me for) all his sales pages to reflect this new knowledge about who is real market is. And he started by selling them his flagship product (the marketing did not mention "what" it was, just what it would do — i.e., same moves used to kill Nazis, etc.), and then he upsold them specialty videos and training later. But he had to get them in with the general first, and then sell them the specific. And that is my advice … Instead of niching down, go wide. In this case, don't be in the martial arts business, be in the … "How to Be a Badass" Business It's casting a wide net, not a small net. And it can bring in a lot more buyers, to whom you can sell the specialty stuff over time as they learn your ways. As for how to begin marketing it … I'd look for horror stories going on in the world (not hard to find). And all my marketing would be talking about those stories. Like the knock-out games going on in big cities. Crooked DA's letting violent criminals loose in the streets (always in the news). The innocent families caught in the wrong side of town or confronted by a drooling homeless thug on the subway. The home invasions in traditionally "safe" areas (even in the ritzy Hamptons, people are installing bulletproof glass and panic rooms, for example, because of the invading MS-13 gangs). And none of that marketing would talk about "Muay Thai" or anything specific. It would talk about a way of fighting that you teach — something with a cool-sounding name unique to you — and that people can grab onto and identify with, and feel good and confident about buying. So that is the advice I gave my customer. And it is exactly the approach to take that you can "translate" to nearly any niche. You just have to do the research, know who your buyer is, and have a plan. If you are already familiar with researching, writing copy, email, and other particulars of online marketing, then the above framework in this article can get you started and up and running. But if you are new to some of what you heard today, and want help in how to do this, then that's what my 10-Minute Workday program was designed for.
