Step 1: Decide on Your Course Topic. It may seem obvious, but this is where a LOT of people get tripped up. If you read my email yesterday and did the free-flow exercise, you already have a good list of potential topics. My advice? Don't overthink this! Make it specific … Follow your intuition and excitement … Then do some quick research to make sure there's a market for your idea. (Hint: if there are websites, books, or other courses similar to what you want to talk about, there's a market!) And remember: You are an unlimited creator. Whether you've got 5 or 50 really exciting ideas, just pick one — you can always create a second one. [==> For examples and (free) in-depth instruction on choosing your topic, click here!]( Step 2: Outline Your Course at the High Level Now that you know "what" you're teaching, it's time to sketch out the flow of your course. The process is similar to how you'd outline a book. Pick 6 to 10 "chapters" — the big, overarching concepts or major steps you want to talk about … Then bullet out the points you want to make. You'll want to introduce each topic … explain why it's relevant … and then give action steps. Again, keep it simple. Keep it high level. Keep moving. Step 3: Fill In Your Outline Here's where you get to go deep! For each lesson you outlined, get into the nitty-gritty. Give your insights, explanations, and share plenty of examples & stories to illustrate your points. The more detail the better. You'll also want to decide on your format here. You can write it all out by hand and keep your course as text … Or you can record it as a video or audio course. You can even do "voice-over slides," if you don't want to be on camera. It's totally up to you! Next comes the fun part. 😉 Step 4: Start Making Money! With your course ready for prime time, the only thing left is to put it online, make sure people can pay you for it, and let the world know it's available! There are TONS of ways to do this: - You can host your course on your own blog or website …
- You can use all-in-one software like Rainmaker, VIP Member Vault, or Kajabi …
- Make it a private channel on YouTube and send people the links once they've paid …
- Host it live on Zoom, then sell the replays …
- There are also marketplaces where you can offer your course, like Udemy, SkillShare, Teachable, and many others. These platforms can be a huge help for beginning creators … Because they have a built-in audience of hungry learners … And they handle payment processing and refunds, too.
