Why the world needs your course [The Writer’ s Life](
December 15, 2022 "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams and live the life you have imagined."
– Henry David Thoreau Hey {NAME}, Yesterday, we started talking about e-learning — the $1 billion per day economy … Where creative people like you are building one course, one time … and selling it over and over for hundreds (or thousands) of dollars per sale. Today we're going to start digging into the HOW … and take the first step toward [building YOUR first course](. But first, you may be wondering … If e-learning is almost a $1 billion per day industry … Not to mention the vast universe of free ways to learn online … like the billions of hours of video on YouTube, podcasts, and blogs … Isn't the market saturated yet? Is there room — or demand — for your course? And why would anyone listen to you, when they could learn from world-famous experts like Neil Gaiman or Gordon Ramsey? My answer is simple, but I hope you'll take it seriously: Despite ALL the information on the Internet … And ALL the apparent competition … The truth is … No one else can do it like YOU. No one else has: - your unique life experience …
- your vibrant stories …
- your approach to solving problems …
- your way of teaching … And despite all their good looks, talent, money, and fame … none of those celebrities or best-selling authors are YOU. What YOU create will be unique … even if you're passionate about a popular market like fitness or self-development. And most importantly, your creations will be infused with your personality, creativity, and energy. That's key. Let me ask you this: Have you ever heard a good idea or concept numerous times, but it never really "clicked"? Like … "be present." Or, "work smarter, not harder." And then you hear one particular person explain it a slightly different way, or tell an illuminating story as an example … And THEN it clicks. You finally get it and your life changes! Even though you'd heard what feels like a thousand other people say the same thing … It was the way that person said it that got you to understand. So now, consider the idea or solution you're excited to teach (and may be second-guessing yourself about) … and ask yourself this: What if YOU are "that person" for someone else? What if you're the ONLY one who can be the "click" factor that helps them change their life? If you have a life-changing solution or a way to empower someone … don't you owe it to them to put it out in the world? Aren't they worth it? But get this … If your work resonates with one person, it will very likely resonate with hundreds more … or even thousands … or even tens of thousands. And that's a game-changer. Generally, when I talk about creating products online, people are in one of two camps: Camp 1: You're excited! You might already know what your course would be about, but you just need to know HOW to make it happen. (If that's you, [click here](!) Camp 2: You see the opportunity and find it exciting … but you've got a case of the "not-enoughness." You question whether you've got anything valuable to say … or if anyone would really pay to learn from you. I'll tell you the truth: You don't have to be the world's foremost master on your topic. Let's say you love chess. But Grandmaster Bobby Fischer already has a course on chess! It doesn't matter. Because you love teaching chess to at-risk teenagers as a form of self-empowerment … and you use specific frequencies of music to induce flow that helps speed up learning. People don't want to pay for generalized knowledge or advice. They want specific information, applicable immediately to the situation they're in, from people they resonate with (aka "know, like, and trust"). And if you've "been there, done that" … or you know just 10% more than the folks you're teaching … you have value to add. Keep this in mind, too: Time is our most precious resource. It is non-renewable. And people exchange money to save time, all the time. If you can teach me how to potty train my new puppy in three hours instead of three weeks, won't that save me time … and the life of my favorite rug? If you can help me grow 30% more food out of my garden, doesn't that save me time and money? If you can show me your special way to do my nails so they last a week longer, doesn't that save me time in the salon? Of course. And what you can create is only limited by your imagination. Now, it's YOUR turn. Let's find your "value add!" Grab your journal, open a document on your computer, or grab a piece of paper … and get ready to let your mind free-flow onto the page. Here are some prompts to get you going. (You can choose one that resonates, or brainstorm on all three.) 1. Think about the big stories in your life. What are some of the major challenges (or even minor problems) you've led yourself through? Health? Relationships? Parenting? Think about the journey. What were the steps that got you from A to Z? What do you wish you would've known? Think about how much you would've paid to short-cut that challenge or avoid the pain of that obstacle entirely … What would you have given to have someone guide you through it? 2. What are you most passionate about? What would you talk about, every day, for free, even if no one was listening? 3. What body of knowledge have you gathered while working in your profession? Think problem/solution — how could you save regular folks time and money with what you know? Enjoy this process … it could be the first day of your new life as an unlimited course creator!
