Love it or hate it? [The Writer’ s Life]( December 5, 2022 "A person's success in life can be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have." – Timothy Ferris Are you good at getting feedback, {NAME}? What about giving it? And are you getting — and giving feedback — on a regular basis? In my experience, both aspects are a necessity for building a successful writing business … It helps you grow as a writer. It helps you connect with your clients. And it builds trust … on both sides of the relationship. In today's Monday Morning Jumpstart, AWAI's Chief Success Officer Ted Capshaw digs into the importance of feedback, and gives you some tips on how to receive it … as well as how to properly give it. [>> Go here to listen in.]( Then, think about how you might solicit some feedback this week … Especially if you haven't been getting any. If you have a full-time job, ask your boss for a meeting and request honest feedback about how you're doing. (Use Ted's advice from today's Jumpstart when you do!) If you're taking an AWAI program, submit your assignments for feedback. If you have clients who aren't good at giving feedback, try giving them some direction … For example, ask them to mark areas of your copy that are confusing, unbelievable, boring, or awkward. We call this our CUBA review system and use it so that anyone reviewing copy can provide useful feedback. You can even write a post in our social media groups and ask your fellow AWAI members for feedback. The key is to seek out feedback, so you can continue to grow. I also recommend giving someone specific feedback that can help them too … Comment on something a fellow AWAI member wrote in our Facebook or LinkedIn groups. Let your clients know about an opportunity they're missing. Speak to a colleague you've been meaning to connect with. Or simply reply to this email and tell us what you think about AWAI … We're always looking for ways to improve, as well as do more of what is working well for you. Just remember, the better you get at giving and receiving feedback, the better you'll be as a writer … Better writing means better results. And better results mean better (more) money. 😉 Speaking of money … This week we're going to talk about [FUN MONEY]( you can make as a writer.
