Here’s how you identify your personal POC [The Writer’ s Life]( November 7, 2022 "There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living." – Nelson Mandela Happy Monday, {NAME}! When you first embark on something new — like say, starting a writing business — a lot of questions surface … Is this for real? Could I see this through? Am I good enough? You then start to think about the future … picturing yourself living the writer's life. You imagine what your day will look like … where you'll be writing from … what you'll be writing about … how much money you'll make … You even start to set some goals. "Boy those goals seem far away," you think to yourself. Then the self-doubt creeps in … and the questions resurface. Self-doubt is powerful … And when we don't find ourselves with the proof needed to the questions above … it can hold us back from even getting started. Enter your personal proof of concept. If you're not familiar with the phrase, proof of concept refers to the results from a smaller experiment or trial project, which demonstrates that a bigger concept is feasible. For example, before investing in a full-blown television series, the writers and producers put together a pilot episode to gauge whether or not viewers will be interested in the idea. In [today's Monday Morning Jumpstart](, Ted and Jade will help you identify YOUR personal proof of concept — or rather, a small goal you can achieve fast, that will give you confidence about a bigger goal you have down the road. In writing, the first proof of concept typically is a paycheck … That's what proves to you — and anyone else who needs proof — that this is real, and you can get paid (real money) to write. From there things change … With your newfound confidence, you look at the opportunity differently. Rather than something you're "trying out," you see the real earning potential of this financially valuable skill (i.e. copywriting). You think about what you need to make for copywriting to cover your expenses … and then what you want to make, for copywriting to also cover your lifestyle and financial future. You start moving forward, gaining momentum as you take on more projects and collect more paychecks, and find yourself with bigger and better opportunities as more and more doors open. THAT'S the power of proof of concept. And you can use this method again and again as your business evolves … identifying the next proof of concept that leads to your next big goal. If you're just starting out, what needs to happen to prove that YOU can do this? Would getting paid $200 to write do it? $500? $2,000? Maybe two assignments from the same client to validate you're good enough? There's no "right answer" here … so don't overthink it. Just name whatever comes to mind when you read that question and write it down. And then write down something you can do THIS WEEK to help you achieve it. Lots of writing opportunities will get you there … You just need to pick one and move forward. If you're feeling stuck, [try this one](. Not only can you use it to make great money out of the gate, but you'll also be seen as a high-value professional from day one and it will set you up for "productizing" your services like we discussed last week. Either way, head over to [Monday Morning Jumpstart]( and post it in the comments. And here's to a great week! I just wanted to say thank you for this program! I've actually been talking to a potential client this week about updating her website. So today I used the Site Audit Report Template from the course to help me write an email suggesting some updates we could make on her site. I also mentioned I could do a more in-depth website audit if she's interested. I've never done a site audit before, but this program has given me the confidence to at least offer this as a service 😉 We're one day into the program and it's already been invaluable!
