This gets you in … [The Writer’ s Life]( October 18, 2022 "You can't plan for everything, or you'll never get started in the first place." – Jim Butcher Emails, blogs, newsletters, social media posts, video scripts, landing pages, websites, case studies, white papers … There's no way you could learn it all, right {NAME}!? You're right. But fortunately, you don't need to "know it all." You just have to know it exists. 😉 Knowing the big picture gets in you in the "game" of well-paid writing. And once you're in, the game is pretty simple … Step One: Get paid. Step Two: Grow your income. Step Three: Keep growing your income. Simple right? In yesterday's webinar, we covered Step Two and Three. If you'd like to go back (or if you missed it!), you can [access the playback here](, along with a timestamp of key lessons, so you can quickly jump in on the one that's most useful for YOU right now! But today I want to take a quick step back and look at the big picture … Because as I mentioned above, THAT is what gets you in the game. And it also sets you up for success as you move through the three steps. Does this look familiar? [AWAI's Copywriting-Content Continuum] Hopefully you've seen it before … It's our Copywriting-Content Continuum that walks you through four stages of the [customer journey](, and the copy and content needed at each stage. And while there's a lot you can learn about marketing and business, simply understanding this basic concept sets you up for success … - You'll be a better writer. - You'll have more writing opportunities. - You'll be in control of your income. I'll touch on all of these points this week. But for today, let's make sure you have the customer journey piece mastered … AWAI's Learning Chief, Pam Foster, does a great job [explaining it in her article here](, by walking through it using a fictitious company, DIY BizBooks who sells a bookkeeping system designed for solo business professionals. Here's an overview — Stage One: Build Awareness and Attract Prospects DIY BizBooks needs to get attention in a world where there are LOADS of online bookkeeping choices. There's fierce competition in that field, so how does DIY BizBooks create awareness in a standout way? If their marketing team is clever, they're publishing super helpful "how-to" blog posts, problem-solution YouTube videos, perhaps a free guide on making freelance bookkeeping WAY easier, and other ideas. Stage Two: Build Relationships Now that DIY BizBooks has attracted people looking for bookkeeping solutions (i.e. prospects), they need to win them over with a reason to stick around, explore further, and decide if their system is a good fit. This marketing effort often involves inviting, "problem solved!" content on their website, an engaging email campaign, perhaps a live webinar with Q&A, or other methods of proving that this company can solve the problem. Stage Three: Turn Prospects into Customers It's time to ask for prospects to take action … and if the last two stages have been done properly, this shouldn't be hard to do. It could be through a Free 3-month trial … access to an exclusive freelance bookkeeping tutorial series … or another special perk to motivate someone to take a chance on their bookkeeping system. Stage Four: Keep Customers Happy Finally — the cycle continues where DIY BizBooks works to keep customers happy, so they'll stick around, use the system, renew their accounts, possibly upgrade to other services on the site, and remain loyal fans. They may do this with an "insider tips" newsletter each month, special offers that help people manage their money more effectively, exclusive invitations to monthly expert-level guidance sessions, etc. With these extra perks, customers may become super fans of DIY BizBooks, telling others about its awesomeness and perhaps becoming an affiliate for them. Can you see how much opportunity there is for writers at each stage? And how knowing where in the cycle your reader is would make you a better writer? Every time you sit down to write, no matter the project, you're trying to do one of the following: - Attract a prospect (someone who has a problem that needs solving). - Build a relationship (by proving you understand the problem and by helping the person become better informed). - Turn the prospect into a customer (by offering your solution to the problem). - Keep the customer happy (so they stay around and become a loyal fan). Knowing the customer journey will help you meet the reader where they are no matter what you're writing (a core principle in writing great copy) … Which will always lead to better results. And there's a LOT to be written … The copywriting-content continuum above lists 46 projects, but tomorrow I'll show you 80 projects (!!), complete with fees and examples of each one, so you can pick and choose which ones you want to work on. Remember, you don't need to know them all … you just have to know they exist. That's how you get in the game and set yourself up with a writing income that can grow and grow (and grow!). In the meantime, in case you missed the news, we are opening our [Infinity membership]( one last time at the crazy discounted price — EVER! This is your chance to get unlimited access to everything AWAI has published to date … and everything in the future … for one, ridiculously low fee … So, you can take on any of the projects in the continuum … any time you want!
