October 12, 2022 "Small daily improvements over time lead to stunning results."
– Robin Sharma This may sound a bit weird at first, {NAME} … But stick with me, because I promise it will be worth it. 😉 I'm going to show you how to improve a company's sales … without focusing on sales. Instead of asking yourself, "How can I increase sales?" You're going to ask yourself, "How can I give the reader the smoothest and most enjoyable experience?" And yet … Whatever you're writing, you're going to increase sales as a result. That's what UX copywriting (user experience) is all about … "Fixing" copy to improve the experience for a reader. And ultimately improving the results at the same time. During [our FREE training this afternoon]( at 12 p.m. ET, UX copywriting pioneer Heather Robson is going to show you how to "do" UX, the types of projects you'll work on, how the money works, and how to use those two little letters to land clients — and get much higher fees as a result. But right now, I want to show you why the "user-first approach" works so well — for you the writer, for the reader, and for the company. For every dollar invested in UX, a business can earn as much as $100 in return. Which is why they're happy to pay more money to a copywriter who can write through a UX lens than to one who can't. But for writers, there's more to it. The money is great, of course … But when you go into every assignment with the sole intention of helping readers get what they want, without frustration or friction slowing them down … AND you achieve that goal while still getting great results for your clients … It's a win/win/win — for the client, the reader, and for you. Let me show you what I mean … HealthSpire works with senior citizens to find the right Medicare plans. Shortly after they started, they created a landing page that had the goal of getting potential customers to call and learn more about Medicare. It would be through these conversations with a HealthSpire agent that they would then sign up for a plan. There was just one problem … Their landing page produced poor results. The page was short and contained only the essentials — so as to not cause confusion. But it was actually causing a poor user experience by not providing enough information. Visitors to the site didn't understand the value of the call — or who they'd even be talking with. And that was a problem … Because let's face it — who's excited about getting on the phone with an insurance agent? Especially if you have no idea who you'll be dealing with. So HealthSpire set out to improve the user experience, by writing a longer page that explained the importance of the phone call and included a picture and short biography of their agents. The results? A 638% increase in calls! 🤯 As you can imagine, they were thrilled … More leads meant more calls for their well-trained agents. But think about how YOU would feel if you were the copywriter who made those changes … Not only did you do stellar work for your client … You also helped a whole bunch of senior citizens get the health coverage they need. Like I said, win/win/win! Ready for another? If there's anything as gratifying as helping seniors, it's probably helping kids … Easton is the world's biggest manufacturer of baseball equipment. They sell bats, gloves, catcher's mitts, and everything else players of all ages need. The problem they faced a few years ago was that their site wasn't mobile-friendly, but that's how most of their audience was visiting them. By making their site responsive — and a lot easier to use — they generated a 659% increase in mobile revenue. But that's not all … Visitors to the site were also having a hard time finding the right bat — one that was the weight they were looking for, at the right price, and approved for their league. So they created a bat finder that explains the differences among the many bats on the site and lets visitors pinpoint what they need. This decreased their research time on the site and the number of steps required — and helped them increase online sales revenue by 240%. Once again, these huge improvements were made NOT by asking how they could sell more bats … But by asking how could they make the whole process easier for visitors to their site. UX is pretty cool, am I right? You get to make a splash with your client AND help a bunch of young Little Leaguers get the right bat. One more … TreeRing is a company that helps schools create better yearbooks. But they were struggling with getting schools to request a free sample yearbook. After some analysis and testing, they identified quite a few areas that could be improved … One was to clarify what the free sample offer was. Apparently, schools were simply confused, and a few minor edits cleared it up. And another was to streamline their free sample email sequence. With these and a few other improvements to their UX, TreeRing experienced a 53% year-over-year increase in net revenue. Once again, if you were the copywriter who helped make these changes, you'd have played a big role in getting better yearbooks into the hands of students. And again, you'd have done it simply with the intention of giving a better user experience for website visitors. This is what I love the most about UX copywriting … You can tie your sense of fulfillment to the amount of help you're able to give others through your writing, not just the sales you make … But when you do it well, you'll make more sales simply as a byproduct of putting your readers first.
