It can make a huge impact on your outcome as a writer … [The Writer’ s Life]( October 10, 2022 "What we do every day matters more than what we do once in a while." – Gretchen Rubin Happy Monday, {NAME}! Are you ready for a crazy busy week, with long workdays?! Me neither. 😉 Although if I'm being honest, I used to be … I loved working long days. I wore my "overworked" badge of honor with pride. First in, last out … I would work as hard as physically possible to build my career and get the praise my insecure soul needed to thrive. But not anymore … I work to enjoy life as much as possible. Don't get me wrong, there are some weeks where I find myself heading back to my home office a bit too many times after the workday should be done. Work is an outlet for me … And balancing between doing what's needed and doing what I love can be challenging sometimes. It feels great to create and achieve. And I can easily be pulled back in by work's siren song. But when I find myself pulling towards more hours … or I hear my tone of voice change as stress creeps into my body … or I start feeling a bit overwhelmed and see to-do lists everywhere around my house … my inner voice reminds me of advice I got from my dear friend and mentor, Nick Usborne. "It's time to pull back up to 30K feet and assess. Are you spending your time where you're getting the greatest return?" This is a game changer when building or running your own business. And I recommend doing it once a quarter, if not every month … How are you spending your time? Audit everything … what you're doing to learn a new skill or improve your craft, your marketing efforts, the clients you're working with … anything that requires time from you. If you have a full-time job, you have a limited number of hours to dedicate to your writing business. How are you spending them? Are you confident it's one of the things with the biggest output or return? And what about that full-time job? Could you be more focused there, freeing up some extra time to work on your writing? Could you work on assignments for your company that will give you the experience you can leverage later? Our Chief Success Officer Ted Capshaw calls it grit vs. grind … And today, he and Jade Trueblood, AWAI's Director of Training, will show you the difference, and give you some great insights that may change your way of thinking … as well as help ensure you're doing things "right."
