We’ll help celebrate with you … [The Writer’ s Life]( September 15, 2022 "Celebrate what you've accomplished but raise the bar a little higher each time you succeed." – Mia Hamm I LOVE to celebrate, {NAME}! Whether it's catching up with the latest wins from the members featured in our [case studies]( … Reading about members finding success in every issue of [Barefoot Writer Magazine]( … Sharing the wins posted in our Facebook group in every issue of this e-letter … Or taking time at the beginning of our live trainings and certifications to hear the accomplishments from the students firsthand … Celebrating wins is a BIG part of the AWAI culture. 🥳 🎉 And, to get you thinking about YOUR wins … AWAI Success Michele Peterson shares three celebrations you can't ignore as a freelance writer. Enjoy! And remember to keep sharing those wins so we can celebrate YOU, too. You can share your story at mysuccess@awai.com. [Rebecca Matter’ s signature] Rebecca P.S. Are you signed up for our upcoming SEO Certification? It's the last time we'll offer it this year … If you're looking for an in-demand path that pays well right out of the gate, [this is it](! As past classes have proven, you'll have loads to celebrate. 😉 --------------------------------------------------------------- Hi {NAME}, Fellow AWAI Member Michele Peterson here! 👋 The explosive pop of the cork, the bubbles, the fizz … champagne is seen as a special drink to be enjoyed at special occasions. People pop open bottles of champagne to celebrate weddings, birthdays, and graduations. They spray champagne over their teammates in the locker room after sports wins and smash bottles of it against ships before their maiden voyages. Champagne has become more than a type of wine made in a unique way. It's become more than something to drink. It's become a symbol of celebration. And celebrations are important. Celebrations — with or without champagne — help instill meaning and significance to events. They add joy and fun to our lives. They add emotion to events and make them more memorable. Just the act of celebrating something can turn it from ordinary into something special. This might be why Russ Henneberry starts off [his mastery class live sessions]( with celebrations of student wins. Specifically, people in his classes are encouraged to share and celebrate any one of three activities: - Putting it out there that you're a freelance writer - Getting a call scheduled with a prospective client - Landing a new client As part of the training team supporting Russ with his Content Market Mastery live classes, I've seen the power of these celebrations and the magic that happens as a result. I've seen people taking action and getting results. And that's why, beyond just in a class setting, these are three celebrations I believe we all should incorporate into our writer's lives on an ongoing basis. Putting it Out There That You're a Freelance Writer Marketing yourself isn't just something you do once. It's not something you do only when you're a brand-new writer. Even experienced writers need to keep talking about what they're doing as writers. So, how do you put it out there? Here are some ideas: - Post on social media - Go live on social media - Publish an article on LinkedIn - Publish an article on your own blog - Send emails to people you know - Text people you know - TALK to people you know — in-person or over the phone And what might you say? Whether you're just starting out or you're an experienced writer, share your excitement about what you do as a writer. Talk about the kind of writing you do, the clients you write for (or hope to write for), and how your writing helps them. You can also share when you've learned something new. For example, Russ encourages his students to share that they're doing a deep dive into mastering content marketing … or mastering SEO for his other live mastery class. When you share details about your writer's life, you remind people that you are a writer. That reminder opens the door to referrals. Because the point of telling people isn't always just to get them to hire you themselves. It's about being top-of-mind so that if they run across someone who needs your services, they will think of you and refer that person to you. Don't make the mistake and think that putting it out there that you're a freelance writer is a minor thing … that it isn't a big enough deal to warrant a celebration. It certainly is! It may feel like a small thing, but it's essential. Without doing it, you can't get to the next larger celebration of the discovery call. Getting a Call Scheduled with a Prospective Client Most writers would agree that getting on a call with someone to talk about writing for them is definitely a reason to celebrate. And it is! Regardless of whether the call turns into a request for an actual proposal or not. That's right … The call itself is a reason for celebration, regardless of the outcome. I hear so many writers downplay their calls with prospects when those calls don't result in the prospect becoming a client. And that's a dangerous mindset to have. It's unrealistic to expect that every single discovery call will turn into a new client. I don't know ANY writer who has a 100% close ratio. Seriously, nobody converts every call into a client. And it may not feel like it in the moment, but that's a good thing! Sometimes you and the prospect aren't really a good fit for each other. Sometimes they have unrealistic expectations that you don't want to compromise to accommodate. Maybe the timing just isn't right. Whatever the case may be, when you can accept and become okay with knowing that you won't get a client from every call, it takes the pressure off. And with the pressure off, you can be more relaxed and actually have a better call. The win is the call itself. The outcome could be landing a client. The outcome could be just that you talked to someone and practiced your discovery call questions and delivery. Either outcome is cause for celebration. Landing a New Client No matter how much experience you have, you always celebrate landing a new client. Or landing a new project with an existing client. Or having a client you haven't heard from in awhile come back with new projects. Author and founder of Soul of Money Institute, Lynne Twist says, "What you appreciate, appreciates." She's talking about money appreciating the more you appreciate it. But the same goes for clients and, really, all of these wins we celebrate as writers. When we take the time to celebrate and appreciate them, they expand and grow. So, I encourage you to celebrate landing every new client as if it was your first client. We should never become so used to success that we take it for granted. Celebrations are Best Shared It's not as fun to pop open champagne and drink alone. You tend to enjoy it more when you share the experience with others. And the same is true with celebrating your wins as a freelance writer. Celebrating with a solo victory dance in your home office is good. And you definitely should do it if that's your thing. But after you have that initial, immediate reaction, sharing the celebration with others makes it bigger. It gives it more significance. That's why the class celebrations with Russ have so much meaning and power. People are letting others share in their joy and good fortune. They're sharing their journeys with each other. The even bigger magic is that the practice of celebrating wins created more wins to celebrate. This is huge! The practice of celebrating wins created more wins to celebrate. Here's why … The fact of knowing that they would be asked to share a win is what gave many people the push they needed to take the action in the first place. The great thing about this is that you can replicate that magic outside of the live class setting. You can develop a practice of celebrating wins with accountability partners. Or get in the habit of sharing your wins in an AWAI Facebook group. When you get into the regular habit of not only celebrating your wins but also sharing them with others — champagne optional — your writer's life will expand, and you'll enjoy even greater success.
