It’s wild when you think about it this way … August 26, 2022 "Winning isn't getting ahead

It’s wild when you think about it this way … [The Writer’ s Life]( August 26, 2022 "Winning isn't getting ahead of others. It's getting ahead of yourself." – Roger Staubach Hi {NAME}, Every summer we play a LOT of games in the Matter House … This year's favorite? Trying to be a "winner" at the game of Life. If you haven't played before, you win by having the most money at the end. You accumulate money from the job you choose, return on investments you make, other players who unluckily draw cards that instruct them to pay you for things, and through a bonus at the end for how many people or pets you have in your car. (That last one makes no sense to me either!) And you spend money by making decisions you hope will lead to more money … going to college, getting married, and deciding whether or not to have family … in addition to paying other players as instructed by the action cards. After finishing the game one evening, my youngest asked me, "If you could add any job to the choices, what would it be? I bet I know what you'll say!" "What would YOU add," I asked? "Brain surgeon," he replied. "I always try to get the doctor card because it pays the most. But I'm guessing a brain surgeon makes more." "Interesting thinking," I responded. "What do you think I'd add?" "Copywriter!" he exclaimed. I burst out laughing — he was right! My kids love to tell anyone who asks that I "do copywriting." So back to how the game is played … One of the biggest "spends" in the game … and one of the first decisions you have to make … is whether you'll go to college. If yes, you pay $100,000 to the bank. The benefit is you get to choose from better paying jobs (jobs that require college degrees), but you also have to wait a bit to start getting paid in the game. If no, you don't pay anything. The benefit is you can choose a job card sooner, and even though it pays less, you start collecting paychecks right away. My son's next very logical question was — "Would I have to go to college?" "No" I replied, "you don't have to go to college to be a copywriter." "So, you'll make less money then." "Not necessarily," I replied … "I know lots of copywriters who make more money than any of the jobs in this game." It's wild to think about, right? In the real game of life … aka real life! … copywriters can make more money than many doctors … Yet you don't have to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical school, nor do you have to wait years to start making money. You don't even need a college degree! ([More on that here]( — we get asked this question a lot because of what aspiring copywriters see on job ads.) You also don't need work experience … Sure, it can help you pick a writing niche. But it's certainly not necessary … [AWAI Success Lynelle Suan]( is a good example — not only did she opt out of going to college, but she's also only 20 years old! On the flip side, you can't be "too old" either. Now, I don't want to determine which of our case studies are considered "older" … 😊 But if you scan our [case study page]( I'm confident you'll find someone who matches where you are in life! You'll find numerous stories of second chapters, retirement careers, and experiences from writers who are done "working" and just having fun making money while they enjoy more free time. And since we're already comparing the life of a copywriter to "other careers," we may as well continue … 😉 You can live where you want. Gone are the days of having to live in a "big city" to have great clients. We have writers living all over the world, in remote areas far and wide. As long as you have access to the internet, location simply doesn't matter. You can identify and connect with clients you want to work with. And conduct all of your business online. Plus, you can take a vacation when YOU want. No more having to "ask a boss" for time off. Or being limited by set vacation days. You simply take the time you want. This freedom goes beyond vacation too … We've had many members grateful for the ability to take the time they needed to recover from an illness or injury, or care for a loved one. And finally, you control how much money you make. I should preface this by saying copywriting is not a 'get rich quick' opportunity. It does take effort to build a client base and turn on passive income streams (I'll be covering this next week!). But copywriting has no limits when it comes to income. And the skill of copywriting can set you up for numerous ways to generate income … true wealth … and legacy. And like I told my son, you can make more money than most doctors … IF that's what you want. But in my experience, and more now than ever before, I hear from our members that what they enjoy most is the freedom. The freedom to ENJOY themselves … To spend time with friends and loved ones … Get up when they want, learn new things, play golf, go to yoga, take a painting class in the middle of the day … Say yes to a spur of the moment lunch date … or simply be the classroom mom at their kid's school, with zero concern that their boss doesn't think they're "serious enough" about their job. Whatever you want from life, {NAME}, copywriting can get you there. You just have to keep stepping forward, day after day. If you're brand new, or even if you've stalled, now is a great time to get going. Companies need you more than ever, and Katie and I are about to kick off our [10 Weeks to a Professional Copywriter]( live training series.
