And it makes your writing stronger, too! [The Writer’ s Life]( July 15, 2022 "In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing." – Theodore Roosevelt Hi {NAME}, We all face countless decisions every day … What to wear … What to each for lunch … Whether or not to eat the cookie that came with lunch … 😉 And when you're getting started as a writer, suddenly you're faced with much bigger decisions … Like what niche to choose … which projects to take on … how much to charge … It can slow you down — or even stop you entirely. I've sadly seen would-be writers stuck on a simple decision and unable to move forward for YEARS. So, today I want to share a little life-hack that automates your decision-making, so you never have to get "stuck" on any decision … I learned it from Tom Bilyeu, a co-founder of Quest Nutrition. When Tom has to make any business decision, he asks himself one simple question: "Does this move me closer to my goal?" If the answer is yes, he does it. If the answer is no, he doesn't. BOOM. DONE. His goal in helping to build Quest was to end metabolic disease. So, when he had to make business decisions, he didn't think about what would bring in the most revenue … Or what other companies in the industry were doing. He just asked which choice would move him closer to his goal. This helped Quest develop a higher-quality protein bar that people actually want to eat … It helped build a raving fanbase that advocated for their brand and got more of their protein bars in the hands of more people who would benefit from them … And it ultimately helped build Quest from a small startup to a billion-dollar company in roughly five years. The strategy worked because it let Tom keep his focus narrowed to just that one big goal — ending metabolic disease. His attention wasn't pulled in a hundred different directions. Everything else fell by the wayside. And as a result, the business grew rapidly. I love how simple — yet effective — this strategy is. It's one I have followed for years now. And have shared with numerous AWAI members who are starting their own copywriting careers … Because let's face it … It's very easy as a new writer (or even an experienced writer) to get sidetracked. Or even worse — to suffer from "Bright Shiny Object Syndrome." Every program sounds amazing … Every expert offers great advice … Every project looks like so much fun … But if you're going to succeed, you can't do it all. You can't listen to everyone. You can't keep changing direction. (At least not if you want to gain real forward progress!) And being overwhelmed with too many choices is ironically one of the biggest reasons people stay stuck and don't make a choice at all. So, {NAME} … Your first step to make this strategy work for you is to have a clear goal. It could be a monetary goal … Maybe something as simple as making an extra $1,500 a month from copywriting … Earning enough to replace your salary … Cutting your working hours in half, so you can spend more time doing what you love … Moving abroad or traveling for long stretches of time … Establishing yourself as an expert in your chosen field, so you can charge more and work less … Writing to support a cause you believe in … Whatever your goal is, write it down and keep it front and center. And from here on out, use it as a filter to make every decision … … including what to learn next. If you find yourself getting sucked in every time you see a new learning opportunity, just ask yourself, "Will this move me closer to my goal?" Let's try a little exercise with our currently open [Sales Enablement Copywriting Mastery & Certification](, for example … Enrollment for this course closes tonight. And I'm getting a lot of writers asking for my input on whether or not they should jump in. The instructor, Steve Slaunwhite, is a legend in the B2B industry who has helped countless AWAI members over the years. There's no doubt you'll get incredible value and learn a TON if you go through the training. And the success stories coming out of the training come fast. But, should YOU sign up? You know what question to ask … "Will this training move me closer to my goal?" Here are a few key considerations about the training that will help you decide … - What you'll learn ➡️ Sales enablement is a type of writing that is in huge demand right now in the B2B industry. Companies are actively searching for writers with this skillset right now. So, if you want to get started or are already working as a B2B copywriter, this could be amazing for you! But if you want to write long-form sales letters or B2C copy, you'll want to think about whether this will move you closer to your goal. - What you'll earn ➡️ Most sales enablement projects are short — often just 100-300 words apiece. And many pay upwards of $1,000 and more each. With huge demand for this type of writing, and conversational projects that don't take long to write, achieving a high-level, full-time income working part-time hours is more than possible. Does that line up with your goal? - What you'll get ➡️ You'll get the core sales enablement training. And Steve will also show you the next steps to take so you can start landing clients right away. You'll also get practice writing assignments and professional feedback, which you can use to create a polished sample to show potential clients. AND you'll have the chance to get certified as a sales enablement copywriter — one of the few writers in the industry with that distinction! You can use that certification to position yourself as an expert. All this will help you land the clients you want to work with. Would that move you closer to your goal? Of course, you can go much deeper … But this simple process can be used whenever you see any new program … certification training … any live or online event … Because when you stay focused ONLY on what moves you closer to your goal … While cutting away everything else … You'll achieve your goal faster than you ever imagined. Now if you DO decide Sales Enablement is right for you, make sure you register before all enrollment closes tonight.
